Wayshandlemistake whendog bite:

1. No vaccination

Vaccination is the best way to deal with rabies, however, many people subjectively do not vaccinate, leading to bad consequences. The cause of death from rabies is statistically that most victims subjectively ignore disease prevention.

Vietnam has a vaccine to prevent rabies when bitten by a rabid dog or cat, but there are still many unfortunate deaths due to lack of knowledge in prevention, and failure to handle and treat rabid dog bites promptly and properly.

2. Ask a traditional healer to check for rabies virus

Nowadays, due to lack of knowledge, some people have the misconception that if they get bitten by a rabid dog and get vaccinated, they will easily become insane. Therefore, they have sought out traditional medicine practitioners to get herbal medicine to drink. And many families have been left in pain and helpless before their loved ones' rabies attacks after a period of "running after" traditional medicine practitioners for treatment.

The wound itself cannot tell whether the dog is sick or not. It is a big mistake to ask a traditional healer to check it. Therefore, the safest thing to do is to go to the Center for Disease Control or the local health station for vaccination.

3. Subjective because of domestic dogs

Rabies does not spare any dog, even domestic dogs. When they carry the rabies virus, the bite will transmit the disease and cause death to the bitten person if not vaccinated in time.

How to handlecorrectwhen bitten by a dog:

1.First aid on the spot when bitten by a dog

- When a child is bitten by a dog, quickly take the child to a running tap and gently wash the wound with soap (be careful not to wash or rub the wound too hard), or you can use concentrated salt water, antiseptic solutions such as alcohol... to wash the wound.

- If the wound is bleeding within 10-15 minutes after being bitten by a dog, you should not stop the bleeding while cleaning the wound, only stop it after 15 minutes if the bleeding continues. At this time, you should place 3 pieces of medical gauze on the wound, wait for 7 minutes, if the bleeding continues to increase, place a few more pieces of gauze on top. Be careful not to remove the previous gauze because it will cause more bleeding. And wait until the bleeding stops, then bandage the wound.

- In case the wound is deep and the child is bleeding heavily, blood spurting out, use a rubber band to tourniquet around the wound and limb. Then quickly take the child to the nearest medical facility for timely emergency treatment to avoid losing too much blood.

- For deep bites, wait 3 days before stitching the wound. Even if the dog has been vaccinated against rabies.

2.Rabies vaccine and serum injection

- Rabies vaccine should be injected immediately if the following cases occur:

For deep bites or minor bites in dangerous areas such as the head, neck, face, limbs, genitals... the child should be quickly taken to a medical facility for emergency treatment, timely injection of anti-rabies serum and vaccine.

When a child is bitten by a rabid dog or the dog shows signs of rabies or the animal cannot be monitored after the bite, the accident site is near an area with an epidemic of rabies in dogs and cats... the victim should be quickly taken for rabies vaccination immediately.

- Do not inject immediately but need to monitor after 15 days in the following cases:

Mild bites, away from dangerous areas and far from the central nervous system.

The dog showed no signs of rabies and was in an area free of rabies.

Within 15 days of being bitten by a dog, if the dog develops rabies, dies, goes missing or is slaughtered, the child should be quickly taken for a rabies vaccination. After 15 days, if the dog is healthy and normal, the mother does not need to take the child for a rabies vaccination.

If the child is vaccinated late after being bitten by a rabid dog, the serum will no longer be effective and only the rabies vaccine can be injected. Therefore, parents must strictly follow the schedule and dosage prescribed by the doctor.
