Vietnamese football possesses many talents born in 1997, who made a splash at the 2018 U23 Asian Cup and the 2019 SEA Games.
Bui Tien Dung
Bui Tien DungBorn on February 28, 1997, he was the hero of U23 Vietnam in the 2018 U23 Asian Cup finals. He continuously made spectacular saves, including 4 successful penalty saves, greatly contributing to helping coach Park Hang-seo's team win the runner-up position, only losing 1-2 to Uzbekistan in the final match. However, the goalkeeper from Thanh Hoa later failed to maintain his form and lost his position at the national team level. At the 2019 SEA Games, Bui Tien Dung mainly played a reserve role for his junior Van Toan. Currently, he has not played any matches for Ho Chi Minh City Club after the first two rounds of V-League 2021.
Nguyen Quang Hai
Quang Hai,Born on April 12, 1997, he is the brightest talent of Vietnamese football today. He left his mark in almost all successful tournaments of the Vietnamese teams under coach Park such as winning the U23 Asian Cup runner-up, fourth place in the Asian Games, winning the AFF Cup 2018, reaching the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup and the gold medal of the SEA Games 2019. The midfielder from Dong Anh is also a mainstay at the Hanoi Club, winning the V-League championship in two consecutive seasons in 2018 and 2019. He won the Vietnam Golden Ball 2018, the Vietnam Silver Ball 2019 and the Vietnam Bronze Ball 2017.
Ha Duc Chinh
Ha Duc Chinh was born on September 22, 1997, in Phu Tho. He has also participated in most of the successful tournaments of Vietnamese football such as reaching the final round of the U20 World Cup 2017, winning the U23 Asia runner-up, winning the AFF Cup 2018, and the SEA Games 2019 gold medal. Duc Chinh is one of the two strikers that Coach Park trusts the most in the Vietnamese team, along with Tien Linh. He is also a regular starter for Da Nang Club in the V-League.
Nguyen Tien Linh
Tien Linh was born on October 20, 1997, currently playing for Binh Duong Club. The striker from Hai Duong participated in the 2017 U20 World Cup, won the 2018 AFF Cup, won the 2019 SEA Games gold medal... One of Tien Linh's biggest regrets is missing the 2018 U23 Asian Cup finals due to injury, the tournament where Vietnam U23 won the runner-up position. Currently, Tien Linh is coach Park Hang-seo's number one choice for the striker position of the Vietnam team after veteran Anh Duc retired.
Tran Dinh Trong
Dinh Trong was born on April 25, 1997, in Gia Lam, Hanoi. He is considered one of the best central defenders in Vietnamese football today. Dinh Trong is a member of the Vietnam U23 team that won the 2018 U23 Asian Cup runner-up and the 2018 AFF Cup. However, in the past two years, his career has been seriously affected by injury. Dinh Trong has now recovered and fans are waiting for him to regain his form in important matches for his club and the national team in 2021.
Nguyen Thanh Chung
Thanh Chung was born on September 8, 1997, in Tuyen Quang. He was with the U23 Vietnam team that won the 2018 U23 Asian Cup runner-up title, the 2018 AFF Cup championship, and the 2019 SEA Games gold medal. Last season, Thanh Chung was often the main player for Hanoi FC when Duy Manh and Dinh Trong were injured. The central defender, who often wears the number 18 shirt, not only defends well but also regularly scores for the capital team.
Ho Tan Tai
Ho Tan Tai was born on November 6, 1997, in Binh Dinh. This player is emerging as one of the best right-backs in Vietnam today. He participated in the 2017 U20 World Cup finals and won the SEA Games 2019 gold medal with U22 Vietnam. Not only is he good at defending, Tan Tai is also very dangerous when attacking. In V-League 2020, he scored three goals and had three assists for Binh Duong. This season, Tan Tai returned to play for his hometown team Binh Dinh.
Nguyen Trong Dai
Trong Dai was born on April 7, 1997, in Hai Duong. He was once considered the most promising young talent of the Vietnam U19 team that reached the semi-finals of the 2016 U19 Asian Cup. However, this player has declined in form since the 2017 U20 World Cup finals and has gradually "disappeared" at the national team level under coach Park Hang-seo. Trong Dai is trying to find himself again in the Viettel Club shirt. Coach Truong Viet Hoang has regularly let him play since the second phase of the 2020 V-League and the beginning of the 2021 season.
Truong Van Thai Quy
Truong Van Thai Quy was born on August 22, 1997, in Quang Tri. He was part of the U23 Vietnam team that won the 2018 U23 Asian Cup runner-up title and the 2019 SEA Games gold medal with U22 Vietnam. Thai Quy has not yet secured a starting position at Hanoi FC, but coach Chu Dinh Nghiem often brings him on as a substitute to create breakthroughs. However, he has not played for Hanoi in any matches in the new season due to injury.
Tran Thanh Son
Tran Thanh Son was born on December 30, 1997, and grew up in HAGL's training center. The player from Ho Chi Minh City is a member of the U22 Vietnam team that won the 19th SEA Games gold medal. Since the 2020 season, Thanh Son has been loaned by HAGL to CAND Club, playing in the First Division.
Nguyen Trong Hung
Nguyen Trong Hung was born on October 3, 1997, in Thanh Hoa. He was part of the U22 Vietnam team that won the 2019 SEA Games gold medal. Trong Hung plays as an attacking midfielder and was once considered the "second Phan Van Duc". However, in the last two seasons, his career has been severely affected by injuries. This season, Trong Hung has not played a single match for Thanh Hoa Club.
