Recent horrific crane collapses
(Baonghean.vn) - In recent years, there have been a series of crane collapses causing loss of life and property. This incident highlights the lack of workplace safety in construction projects.
1 - Giant crane breaks in half, one person dies.

At approximately 11:30 PM on November 24, 2015, while unloading cargo for the Fortune Navigator vessel of Vietnam Maritime Transport Corporation (Vosco), a crane with a lifting capacity of tens of tons at Tan Thuan Port, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, suddenly broke in half and collapsed, falling onto the ship's hold.
The deceased victim was Mr. Nguyen Dang Son (born in 1967, from Cu Chi District, Ho Chi Minh City). Several other workers were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.
2 - Crane collapses, pedestrian crushed to death.

At 11:25 AM on November 18, 2015, a crane working on the BIDV Dong Hai Phong bank headquarters project suddenly collapsed. A section of the crane broke off and fell, crushing a motorcyclist on Le Hong Phong street.
The victim, named Bay (49 years old), died on the spot. The crane operator was injured, while the woman riding a bicycle nearby miraculously escaped death. According to several witnesses, the crane fell onto the road at a time when there was little traffic.
3 - Crane collapses in Dong Thap, 2 workers die.

The accident occurred at approximately 4 PM on August 25th, in front of Viet Thang Animal Feed Joint Stock Company, located in Zone C, Sa Dec Industrial Park (Tan Khanh Dong commune, Sa Dec city).
While using a crane to drive concrete piles, the crane bent and fell sideways, striking two workers: Ho Hoang Vu (37 years old, residing in Tan My commune, Lap Vo district, Dong Thap province) and Dinh Khac Vuong (22 years old, residing in Pong Drang commune, Krong Buk district, Dak Lak province).
The accident resulted in Mr. Vu's immediate death, while Mr. Vuong sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Cho Ray Hospital for emergency treatment, but he later died due to the severity of his injuries. Both were workers for Nam Asia Construction Joint Stock Company.
4 - Crane collapses at urban railway project.

On the afternoon of May 12, 2015, a crane at a Hanoi urban railway project (on the Cau Giay road section) unexpectedly collapsed, crushing a house and knocking over two motorbikes. Among the victims was an eight-month pregnant woman.
At approximately 4:10 PM, a pregnant woman was driving a Honda SH Mode scooter from Xuan Thuy Street towards Cau Giay Bridge. As she reached the front of house number 359 Cau Giay, a crane suddenly collapsed, blocking the road and crushing the roof between houses number 359 and 361.
A Honda SH scooter and another young man's Dream scooter were knocked over by a crane cable. Many people behind them screamed in fear and slammed on the brakes, while some locals rushed to help the injured to the side of the road.
5 - Crane collapses onto residential house in Hanoi

At approximately 7:30 PM on October 18, 2016, a crane arm, several tens of meters high, at the construction site of the commercial service, apartment, and parking complex project at 69 Thuy Khue Street suddenly collapsed across the road and fell onto a house opposite. At the scene, the top of the crane arm fell onto the roof of house number 80 Thuy Khue Street; fortunately, no one was injured.
This project is invested by Sun Group, and the construction contractor is Hoa Binh Construction and Real Estate Corporation. A representative of the investor stated that the incident occurred when the contractor lowered the crane to ensure safety before Typhoon Sarika made landfall. "The weak soil foundation of the project affected the crane lowering process," he said.
6 - Crane collapses onto kindergarten in Ho Chi Minh City

At approximately 10:00 AM on May 12, 2016, a construction crane at the TopLife Tower luxury apartment project on Dien Bien Phu Street suddenly collapsed onto a kindergarten in Ward 11, District 10, Ho Chi Minh City.
The crane collapse caused panic among preschool children and teachers. Teachers quickly evacuated the students from the school. Many parents also rushed to pick up their children after hearing the news. The initial cause was determined to be that when the crane entered the construction site, it suddenly sank into the ground, causing the crane to tilt and the boom to collapse.
7 - Crane collapses restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City.

On the evening of November 2nd, 2016, a crane operating inside the parking lot of Tan Thanh Enterprise at 949 National Highway 1 (Thoi An Ward, District 12, Ho Chi Minh City) suddenly collapsed.
The incident caused the company's fence and a nearby restaurant's kitchen to collapse, with the brick walls cracking. Many people inside the restaurant panicked and fled outside.
