(Baonghean.vn) - This is the third year that Japonia rice variety has been introduced into production in Chau Kim commune, Que Phong district. This rice variety has a longer growth cycle than other rice varieties, by 10 to 15 days, so farmers are only just beginning the harvest season at this time.
Chau Kim is one of the leading localities in the district to experiment with Japonica rice varieties. After 3 years of production, Japonica rice has proven its ability to withstand cold and resist pests and diseases well; the average yield reached 56 quintals/hectare, with a total production of 1,260 tons; 1.5 times higher than the hybrid rice varieties previously grown in the commune. This crop season, Chau Kim commune planted 112 hectares of Japonica rice out of a total rice area of 212 hectares in the commune.
