Thung Ui is a pristine valley located in Tay Hoa Lu ward (Ninh Binh province), within the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, and only about 3km from Bai Dinh Pagoda. Once a secluded and little-known area, it is now becoming a popular destination thanks to the combination of magnificent natural landscapes and well-restored cultural structures.
Spiritual and historical architectural space
Thung Ui impresses with its system of spiritual structures including the Altar of Heaven, the Temple of Earth, the Temple of Humanity, and the traditional stilt house area. These structures were built to develop religious tourism, creating an ancient space in the heart of the valley.
Every year, on the 10th day of the third lunar month, the Altar of Heaven festival is held here to commemorate King Dinh Tien Hoang. According to historical records and local legends, after ascending the throne in 968, Dinh Bo Linh established an altar here to worship heaven and earth, to report his achievements and pray for national peace and prosperity.

With its crystal-clear lake nestled beneath limestone cliffs, Thung Ui is considered by many tourists to be a true setting for historical dramas. It's an ideal location for young people to wear traditional costumes for photoshoots, or for film crews to shoot music videos and movies, thanks to its picturesque, ink-wash-like scenery.
Besides the spiritual aspect, visitors here also have the opportunity to experience the unique culture of the Muong ethnic group. Activities such as bamboo pole dancing, gong playing, wearing traditional costumes, and admiring the characteristic waterwheels create a diverse and vibrant tourist experience.
Opening hours
Currently, the final supporting facilities are being urgently completed by the Thung Ui Management Board. According to plans, this destination will officially open to visitors during the upcoming Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse), promising to become a new attractive tourist spot in the ancient capital of Ninh Binh.
