Nissan and Infiniti are recalling older vehicles that have been repaired after collisions to address faulty Takata airbags.

Officially, only 375 vehicles are being recalled, but Nissan says more than 18,000 products may be equipped with faulty airbags.

Owners of 2001-2003 Nissan Maximas, 2002-2006 Nissan Sentras, 2007-2012 Nissan Versa, 2002-2003 Infiniti QX4s, and 2006-2010 Infiniti M35s/M45s who have had their vehicles repaired following a collision or theft should be aware that the airbag inflators replaced on their vehicles may be dangerous.

“Potentially defective inflators may have been installed in vehicles after they underwent repairs. Vehicles with airbag inflators installed before December 9, 2016, are not affected,” Nissan said in a statement.

The faulty airbag inflators were accidentally shipped to Nissan and Infiniti service depots between December 9, 2016, and November 12, 2021. Owners have been notified by mail of the recall, and will be asked to bring their vehicles in for inspection and, if faulty parts are found, they will be replaced.
