Failing to win her back, the young pilot injected his girlfriend with pesticide.
After being dumped by his girlfriend, a female teacher three years older than him, the young man attacked her with a knife and syringe, nearly killing her.
On July 5th, at the first-instance trial, the Quang Nam Provincial People's Court sentenced defendant Nguyen Van Tin (born in 1992; residing in Tien Tho commune, Tien Phuoc district, Quang Nam province) to 12 years in prison for "murder".
According to the indictment, in late 2015, Tin and Ms. NTMT (born in 1989; residing in Tien Ky town, Tien Phuoc district) were in a romantic relationship. Around December 2016, realizing she no longer had feelings for Tin, Ms. T. initiated the breakup. Because he still had feelings for her and believed she had fallen in love with someone else, Tin repeatedly pressured her to rekindle their relationship, but Ms. T. refused.

On January 16th, Tin rode his motorbike to buy a bottle of pesticide to spray the fields as his mother had instructed, and then went to a coffee shop for a drink. There, Tin recalled his relationship with Ms. T. and bought a switchblade from a street vendor with the intention of threatening her to scare her into rekindling their relationship.
Knowing that Ms. T. would be returning from teaching around 5 PM, Tin rode his motorbike with the intention of intercepting her to talk. Along the way, Tin remembered he had a bottle of pesticide and decided to buy syringes to inject the pesticide into Ms. T. Tin stopped at a pharmacy, bought two syringes, and mixed the pesticide with distilled water, putting the mixture into the two syringes.
Half an hour later, Ms. T. returned home from teaching. Tin stopped her car to talk, wanting to rekindle their relationship, but Ms. T. refused. At that moment, Tin pulled out a knife and stabbed Ms. T. in the neck, causing injury. He then used two syringes he had prepared to stab Ms. T. multiple times in the arm and back before injecting poison into her body.
Seeing someone passing by, Tín, fearing discovery, pulled Ms. T. deeper into the acacia forest and sat beside her. At this point, Ms. T. managed to snatch the knife from Tín's person, throw it away, and run to a nearby house for help, covered in blood. Thanks to timely medical intervention, Ms. T. survived but sustained 29% burns.
As for Tin, when Ms. T. tried to run away, he was afraid of being discovered, so he fled on his motorbike and later surrendered to the police.
