The suffering of a poor, elderly mother
"Yellow leaves remain on the tree, but will the green leaves fall to the sky?" Visiting Mrs. Tran Thi Bay, we further understood the losses and pain of a poor, elderly mother, now alone after the sudden death of her youngest son.

In a small, dilapidated house in Lien Son hamlet, Kim Kien commune, an elderly mother, over 90 years old, is holding a daily memorial service for her son. Mrs. Tran Thi Bay lived with her youngest son, Tran Dinh Thuy, who had a congenital disability. Tragedy struck him while he was fishing for a living; he was electrocuted by high-voltage electricity and did not survive. The simple meal offered by the poor mother reflects her humble life.

Losing her child, Mrs. Bay not only lost her emotional support, but now difficulties weigh even more heavily on her life. Day after day, she still uses her last ounce of strength to tend to her small garden. Because she knows that at least she needs some vegetables and cassava to get by each day.

Mrs. Tran Thi Bay also has a son who lives in the same village. Every day, he and his wife visit to help their mother. However, they are also poor farmers, busy with their work in the fields all year round, so they cannot be near her often. Despite her age and frailty, the old woman only wants to live in her own house, tending to the ancestral rites for her unfortunate youngest son. The life of this impoverished old woman is gradually reaching a dead end.
Out of compassion for Mrs. Bay's plight, neighbors continued to visit, sometimes bringing porridge, sometimes vegetables, to help her overcome her immediate difficulties. But how much help could that possibly provide when her health and illnesses continued to take their toll on her life?

Grandma Bay's small house still stands there, silent and dilapidated, just like the arduous fate of the elderly mother. The life of this poor woman needs the sharing and support of the community. Every act of assistance, however small, will become a warm light, dispelling the darkness of loneliness and the sorrow of loss that surrounds this house.
