The worries of a poor girl before the new school year.
(Baonghean.vn) - The difficult circumstances of Tran Thi Phuong Anh in Hamlet 1, Long Son Commune, Anh Son District, have evoked much sympathy. Born without ever knowing her father, and abandoned by her mother who remarried, her life depends entirely on her frail grandmother, who is over 70 years old.

The simple, one-story house is where Phuong Anh and her grandmother live their daily lives. Although in 7th grade, Phuong Anh looks more mature than her age. As she enters a new school year, she is genuinely worried about the many difficulties life will present.
Mrs. Ty (Phuong Anh's grandmother) recounted: Her life has been full of hardships. Her husband passed away early, leaving her with three children. Her eldest daughter married a farmer in the village, and their life is also difficult. Her second child is Phuong Anh's mother, and her youngest son is nearly 40 years old but is still unmarried and often works as a hired laborer to earn a living; he currently lives with her.
Ms. Ty said: Phuong Anh's mother was born in 1977, and because she was past the age for marriage, she remained unmarried.Lacking a stable job, in 2005, through an acquaintance, she went to Vinh City to work as a domestic helper for a family. However, after a while, she became pregnant with the man's child and gave birth to Phuong Anh. From then on, the mother and daughter lived with Mrs. Ty.
In 2015, Phuong Anh's mother left her with her maternal grandmother to remarry in Con Cuong district. Due to difficult circumstances and a hard life, she rarely visited her daughter and didn't have money to send back to her grandmother to support Phuong Anh's education.
Life is very difficult for the grandmother and granddaughter. The grandmother is old and frail and unable to work, and the family's living expenses depend solely on the uncle's work as a laborer, but his job is unstable and his income is low. The grandmother worries most about the beginning of each school year for Phuong Anh. In previous years, she had to save up for textbooks and school fees, paying whatever she could, in installments to cover the costs.
Life was difficult, but Phuong Anh was always a good girl, very studious, and always helped her grandmother with all the housework. For six years of schooling, she was an exemplary class leader and an outstanding student. Last school year, in the district-level excellent student competition, Phuong Anh won second prize in Literature.
