(Baonghean.vn) - At this time, it is the main onion season but farmers in Anh Son district do not want to harvest because the price has dropped dramatically..

This year, Ms. Le Thanh Nguyet's family in village 323, Dinh Son commune, planted 6 tons of onion seeds on an area of 2.5 sao. With a yield of 1.5 quintals/sao, the selling price at this time last year was 40 thousand VND/kg, at times up to 70,000 VND/kg, but now it is only 18-20 thousand VND/kg.

According to Ms. Nguyet, on an area of 2.5 sao of onions, last year the family harvested 400 kg, after deducting expenses the income was 20 million, but this year it is less than half.

Ms. Thai Thi Hoa from village 323, Dinh Son commune, said: This year, her family invested in planting 800 seedlings of shallots on an area of more than 3 sao. Looking at the shallot bushes pushing out the bulbs as big as thumbs, in neat rows, everyone was secretly happy because of a bumper crop. But when it came time to harvest, the price was too low. Currently, the family does not want to harvest.

Dinh Son is a locality that has formed a specialized area for growing chives in Anh Son district with an area of 25 hectares, concentrated in villages 19/5, 323 and Thang Tam. In village 19/5 alone, nearly 100% of households grow chives, with the smallest households growing 1 sao, and the largest households growing 5-7 sao.

However, at this time, there are actually many onion gardens that people do not want to harvest. Some households are waiting for high prices, some harvest sparingly, so up to now, the harvested area has only reached 60% compared to the same period last year.

Not only Dinh Son commune, shallots are grown by farmers in many localities such as Cam Son, Tuong Son, Phuc Son. The situation of massive expansion of acreage and the failure to create connections and find outlets for the products has caused shallots to fall into the current situation of devaluation./.
