(Baonghean.vn) - Despite facing many disadvantages due to unpredictable weather, many pineapple farmers in Quynh Luu are very excited this year because the pineapple harvest is abundant and the prices are high.

| The mountainous commune of Tan Thang has approximately 400 hectares of pineapple plantations. The areas with the most pineapple cultivation are mainly concentrated in hamlets such as 2/9, 12/9, 26/3, etc. For many years, pineapples have been considered one of the key agricultural products of Quynh Luu, having established a brand and participating quite well in the market. | At this time of year, hundreds of traders from various regions come daily to buy pineapples from local farmers. Mr. Le Van Sang, from Hamlet 12/9, Tan Thang Commune, happily stated: “Currently, it’s only the beginning of the harvest season, but the sale of pineapples for my family is quite favorable. Compared to previous years, the average purchase price at the field this year is 5,000 VND/kg, which isn’t very high. However, at this price, pineapple growers are already making a profit. My family is harvesting 10 acres of early pineapples with a yield of over 17 tons. After deducting expenses, we will have a profit of about 50 million VND.” (Photo: Thuy Loi) |

| Currently, traders are buying Grade I pineapples (0.6 kg/fruit or more) directly from the fields at prices ranging from 5,500 to 6,000 VND/kg. Retailers at the market are selling them for between 8,500 and 10,000 VND/kg. While these prices are not as high as in previous years, they are considered profitable for pineapple growers. | Furthermore, the practice of staggered planting (overlapping flowering times instead of simultaneous flowering) helps ensure a consistent supply for the market throughout the summer and avoids the situation where pineapples ripen all at once, leading to oversupply, difficulty in selling, or price manipulation by traders. Because pineapples ripen very quickly, over-ripening reduces their sugar content. Currently, in addition to the ripe pineapples being harvested, there are still many areas of young and newly flowering pineapples in the fields of Tan Thang. Photo: Thuy Loi. |

| This year, despite the unpredictable weather, pineapple yields have remained relatively stable compared to previous years, reaching 27-30 tons per hectare. The high-yielding Queen pineapple variety is widely cultivated. Photo: Thuy Loi. |

| Pineapples are drought-tolerant crops, so they are mainly grown in hilly areas. On average, each hectare of pineapple requires an investment of 70-80 million VND. However, the economic efficiency of pineapple cultivation is quite high compared to many other crops. Currently, the entire Quynh Luu district has about 750 hectares of land planted with pineapples.
