Thanks to mechanization using combine harvesters, the rice harvest is progressing faster for farmers. This also provides an opportunity for farmers to prepare for planting the early summer-autumn rice crop. Photo: Xuan Hoang
Ảnh: Quang A
This spring, according to our observations, in the fields of Do Luong district and other districts such as Thanh Chuong, Yen Thanh, Anh Son, Dien Chau, Quynh Luu... besides some areas with reduced yields, the rest are still having a good harvest with large ears and firm grains. Photo: Quang An

According to local people, the weather these days is not favorable for harvesting crops, due to cloudy skies and occasional rain, so whenever there is sunshine, they use machines to harvest the rice in the fields. Photo: Xuan Hoang

The rice is bagged right on the machine and loaded by the machine operators at the edge of the field for the farmer. This year, the machine operators are collecting the rice at a price of 160,000 - 180,000 VND per sao (depending on the type of field). Photo: Xuan Hoang

Mr. Nguyen Khanh Lien, residing in My Khanh hamlet, Van Tu commune, Yen Thanh district, said that this spring his family planted 11 sao (approximately 1.1 hectares) of rice, including 4 sao of Khang Dan variety and 7 sao of various hybrid rice varieties. By May 15th, the family had finished harvesting the entire area, and overall, this year's rice yield was still 3.5 quintals per sao. Photo: Xuan Hoang

Besides rice harvesting machines, each village has a team that transports rice from the fields to homes using farm tractors. The transport fee charged by the vehicle owners is around 100,000 VND per trip (depending on the distance). Photo: Xuan Hoang

For farmers in mountainous areas, due to the fragmented and terraced nature of their rice fields, mechanization is not applied to harvesting. Instead, they use shoulder-mounted combine harvesters and threshing machines directly in the fields, resulting in a slower harvesting process. According to assessments by the People's Committees of the districts, most rice fields yielded a good harvest, with an average yield of 4.9 - 5 tons/ha. In the Spring crop season of 2025, the entire province planted 91,000 hectares of rice. By May 16th, many fields had almost finished harvesting. Immediately after harvesting the Spring rice crop, farmers turned to preparing the land for the Summer-Autumn rice crop. Currently, the Department of Agriculture and Environment is assessing the average yield of the Spring rice crop. However, according to our observations, while some areas experienced reduced yields, the majority achieved high yields. In the photo: Farmers in Do Luong district drying rice. Photo: Xuan Hoang
