(Baonghean.vn) - Duroc crossbred pigs, also known as American pigs or all-brown pigs, have reddish-brown or reddish-brown fur, a moderately large head, a long snout, large ears, and a small, long neck.

The family of Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, from Con Ca parish, Hung Lap hamlet, Nghia Loc commune (Nghia Dan district, Nghe An province), has been raising pigs for over 10 years, but the results were not very good. Nearly two years ago, recognizing the increasing demand for the American Duroc pig breed (also known as the "bull pig"), Mr. Dung boldly invested over 300 million VND to expand his farm to 0.5 hectares for raising this breed.

Due to a lack of knowledge and experience, Mr. Dung's first attempt at crossbreeding Duroc pigs with cowhide failed. Therefore, he actively consulted information and guidance on crossbreeding methods in newspapers and on television, and even traveled to Ninh Binh to learn. To date, his farm consistently maintains 15 sows and 150 fattening pigs, primarily Duroc crossbred pigs.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dung said: “The Duroc crossbred pig breed is very popular among people. Even when pork prices drop, this breed still maintains a stable price. Therefore, my family feels very secure investing in pig farming and the market demand.”

According to Mr. Dung, the Duroc crossbred pig has reddish-brown or reddish-brown fur, a moderately large head, a long snout, large ears, and a small, long neck. Purebred pigs have reddish-brown fur, four black hooves on each foot, a light yellow complexion, and black spots, usually on the thighs, buttocks, and belly. The Duroc crossbred pig is a lean meat breed of medium size.

Adult males typically weigh over 300 kg, while females weigh between 200-300 kg. Duroc crossbred pigs have a relatively high reproductive rate, averaging two litters per year, with 9-11 piglets per litter. However, raising Duroc crossbred pigs requires a high-quality diet and good care to achieve the best results.

In addition to actively developing his family's economy, Mr. Nguyen Van Dung is also a model Catholic who faithfully adheres to the Party's guidelines and policies and the laws of the State. He actively participates in humanitarian and charitable activities, maintains good neighborly relations, and is a role model for raising well-behaved and academically successful children, earning the respect and trust of his community.

Mr. Nguyen Khanh Vy, Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Nghia Loc commune, said: "Mr. Nguyen Van Dung's family is not only known for its highly effective livestock farming model but also for its compassion, love, and willingness to share with those in difficult circumstances, which has been recognized by the local government."
