(Baonghean.vn) - Duroc crossbred pigs are also known as American pigs, cow-skin pigs with reddish-brown or reddish-brown fur all over their bodies, moderately large heads, long snouts, large ears, and small, long necks.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dung's family in Con Ca parish, Hung Lap hamlet, Nghia Loc commune (Nghia Dan, Nghe An) has been raising pigs for more than 10 years but the efficiency is not high. In the past 2 years, realizing the increasing demand of people for the American Duroc pig breed (also known as cow pig), Mr. Dung boldly invested more than 300 million VND to expand 0.5 hectares of this pig breed farm.

Due to lack of knowledge and experience, Mr. Dung's first attempt to crossbreed Duroc pigs failed. Therefore, he actively consulted information on crossbreeding instructions on newspapers and radio and went all the way to Ninh Binh to learn. Up to now, his farm has always maintained 15 sows and 150 pigs, mainly Duroc crossbreed pigs.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dung said: “The Duroc crossbred pig breed is very popular with people. Although the price of pigs sometimes drops, this breed still ensures the price. Therefore, my family is very confident when investing in livestock and the consumption market.”

According to Mr. Dung, the Duroc crossbred pig has reddish or reddish brown fur all over its body, a moderately large head, a long snout, large ears, and a small, long neck. Purebred pigs have reddish-brown fur, four jet-black hooves on each leg, light yellow breath, and black cotton spots usually on the thighs, buttocks, and belly. The Duroc crossbred pig is a lean breed, with an average size.

The adult weight of males is usually over 300 kg/head, and that of females is from 200-300 kg/head. Duroc crossbred pigs have a relatively high reproductive capacity, averaging 2 litters/year, from 9-11 pigs/litter. However, raising Duroc crossbred pigs requires a high nutritional regimen and good care to achieve the best results.

In addition to actively taking care of the family's economic development, Mr. Nguyen Van Dung is also a typical parishioner in implementing the Party's policies and guidelines and the State's laws. He actively participates in humanitarian and charitable activities, maintains the neighborhood relationship, is an example of raising obedient and studious children, and is respected and loved by the people.

Mr. Nguyen Khanh Vy - Chairman of the Fatherland Front of Nghia Loc commune said: "Mr. Nguyen Van Dung's family is not only known for its livestock development model with high economic efficiency but also for its kindness, love and sharing with those in difficult and struggling circumstances, which is recognized by the local government".
