Farmers in Nghe An province enhance the value of their agricultural products by applying high technology.

Instead of relying on weather and traditional farming methods, Nghe An's agriculture is strongly shifting towards modernization, applying high technology and closed-loop production. Greenhouses, greenhouses, and advanced processes not only help increase income for farmers and businesses but also affirm a new mindset: Developing Nghe An's agriculture using intelligence and technology to create sustainable value.

Modern production thinking

From the first trucks of soil dumped to level the land four years ago, a large, high-tech agricultural farm has now sprung up in Do Luong commune, bringing new life to the area. This is the Doi Choi farm of the Doi Choi Agricultural Cooperative, covering an area of 40 hectares. It boasts a closed-loop production ecosystem, complete with greenhouses and polytunnels utilizing modern Israeli technology. The biggest difference of this model lies in its precision and absolute control; the closed and rigorous production process, from land preparation, planting, caring for, harvesting to packaging and preservation, is operated by specialized and modern machinery and equipment.

“The automated drip irrigation system is equipped with humidity and temperature sensors, allowing for optimal control of the growing environment. This optimal environmental control has enabled us to successfully cultivate high-end and ‘fussy’ crops such as peony grapes, baby cucumbers, Bee tomatoes, and strawberries… even in a region with a harsh climate like Central Vietnam,” said Mr. Nguyen Cong Hai, the farm owner.

Furthermore, the application of biotechnology in the processing of organic microbial fertilizers has helped improve soil quality, strengthen the immune system, and enhance the natural resistance of crops to pests and diseases. As a result, the output not only meets VietGAP standards but also aims for several organic standards, ensuring uniformity and food safety. The effectiveness of applying high technology lies not only in productivity and product quality but also in its economic benefits. Each year, Doi Choi Farm supplies hundreds of tons of high-quality agricultural products to the market. Thanks to their superior quality, the farm's products have entered supermarkets and major distribution channels, bringing high value.

On an area of over 1 hectare in the coastal area of Hai Chau commune, the conversion from traditional earthen ponds to 16 floating ponds for high-tech shrimp farming is truly a "revolution" in thinking for Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa. The key difference of the 3-stage shrimp farming model at the farm is the complete proactive approach to the harsh weather conditions. The incoming water is treated through two sound filtration systems and a rigorous recirculating sedimentation process, eliminating pathogens from the outset; the shrimp larvae are gradually transferred to ponds with suitable environments according to their age, optimizing growth and minimizing losses.

Mr. Hoa said: "We have established an intelligent dual aeration system with a compressed air source passing through nano-lines to create ultra-fine air bubbles that enhance deep oxygenation, combined with surface water fans to collect waste. Thanks to this, the water environment remains stable, helping shrimp develop in the most ideal conditions, minimizing the invasion of dangerous diseases such as E. pylori (E. pylori) or acute hepatopancreatic necrosis syndrome."

However, high technology doesn't mean "relying on machines." According to Mr. Hoa, raising shrimp in the winter season is a harsh challenge due to the scarcity of shrimp fry and extreme weather conditions. "Shrimp farming is inherently risky, especially with regard to disease outbreaks. But by mastering recirculating filtration technology and a closed-loop care process, we can be more confident in the face of unpredictable weather," he shared.

To achieve successful harvests like in 2022, with a net profit of nearly 3 billion VND, Mr. Hoa had to closely monitor every small fluctuation in water color, feeding regime, and shrimp health. Supplementing minerals and vitamins, and controlling stocking density appropriately, were the "pillars" that helped the model withstand market risks. With high technology applied systematically, Mr. Hoa's shrimp farm not only brought economic value to his family but also served as a model for shrimp farmers in coastal areas to visit and learn from.

According to the leaders of Hai Chau commune, the trend of replicating high-tech models like this is the key solution to maximizing the potential of the local coastline. In the context of rising feed and medicine prices, applying the three-stage technology is the answer to the problem of reducing costs and increasing productivity in shrimp farming.

Realizing the aspiration for clean agriculture.

In many localities throughout the province, the image of fragmented fields and manual farming is gradually being replaced by extensive greenhouse and net house systems. This is where "grassroots engineers" - farmers who dare to think and act - are diligently realizing their aspiration for clean agriculture.

To date, throughout the province, it's not difficult to find typical stories illustrating the trend of applying high technology in agricultural production, unlocking the potential of land in a modern and highly efficient way. With just a smartphone, all production processes are controlled and implemented synchronously. This technological control helps agricultural products achieve the highest uniformity, ensuring compliance with stringent VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards for supply to large supermarkets and demanding markets. Orders placed through e-commerce platforms and social media have brought in hundreds of millions of dong in income for farmers who dare to think and act...

To ensure that high-tech applications truly become a breakthrough solution for modernizing and sustainably developing agricultural production, the province has, over the years, issued numerous preferential mechanisms and policies regarding land allocation, capital, and technical training. The goal is not just to target a few individual farms, but to establish key high-tech agricultural zones, transforming Nghe An into a region supplying clean, high-quality agricultural products to many potential markets.

The application of high technology is the "key" to restructuring the province's agricultural sector. Successful models are becoming compelling examples for farmers to learn from, changing old ways of thinking and doing things, and transitioning to more effective new methods.

Mr. Nguyen Van De - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
