Farmers in Quy Hop invent pesticide sprayer from scrap materials.

(Baonghean.vn) - Using discarded motorcycle engines, Mr. Ngo Quoc Cuong, an electrician in Minh Tam hamlet, Minh Hop commune, Quy Hop district, has created a pesticide spraying machine for farms and agricultural enterprises, helping farmers save a lot of costs in the production process.

With his main job being repairing household and industrial electrical equipment, one day, by chance, someone from Que Phong came to him with a broken-down car. After finishing the job and packing up his tools, Cường thought to himself: why not repurpose this engine to make a pesticide sprayer? The design idea began to take shape from there.

During the day, he repairs machinery for customers, and in his free time and at night, he diligently researches and develops his own pesticide sprayer. Three months after conceiving the idea (July 2015), the first pesticide sprayer was created. (Although it also uses gasoline, compared to commercially available sprayers, the one invented by Mr. Cuong saves 1/4 of the fuel because its motorcycle engine is more powerful).

After the first machine was put into use, many people in the village and commune flocked to see it. Consequently, orders began pouring in for him. To obtain the necessary machinery, he went to motorcycle repair shops to buy discarded parts and "processed" them. The starting process of the pesticide sprayer invented by Mr. Cuong is no different from commercially available sprayers, also using a starter button.

However, the most significant difference is the addition of a kick starter, just like on a motorcycle, for use in case the starter malfunctions, along with a gear lever used to change speed during spraying.

With the machine invented by Mr. Cuong, farmers only need to buy additional hoses, a stirring head, a suction head, and spray nozzles to use it. Over time, any damaged parts are easy to find and replace, unlike commercially available sprayers, said Mr. Luong Duc Tuong from Minh Cao hamlet, Minh Hop commune.

With its user-friendly design, even women can easily assemble and operate it.

Furthermore, what farmers appreciate most about the pesticide sprayer invented by Mr. Cuong is its affordable price—a complete set for just over 4 million VND, compared to the cheapest sprayers on the market which cost at least 10 million VND. Not to mention, this sprayer is compact and can be easily transported by motorbike, unlike the bulky machines that previously required carts. According to Mr. Ngo Quoc Cuong, from the initial machine, nearly a dozen more have been completed and sold to farmers. In the future, he plans to research and improve the machine so that it operates autonomously during spraying, contributing to reducing the harmful effects of pesticides on farmers.
