Farmers compete in... information technology.
The Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association has just launched the "Farmers and Information Technology" competition in 2016. This is the first time a competition on information technology has been held for farmers.
The exam will be conducted on computers, based on a set of exam questions developed by the Organizing Committee and the Judging Panel, covering basic skills such as: Internet usage skills; sending and receiving emails; accessing, exploiting, and searching for market information; and applying information technology in agriculture and animal husbandry…

Mr. Lai Xuan Mon, Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers' Association and Head of the Competition Steering Committee, stated: "Through this competition, the Organizing Committee wants to send a message to 15 million farming households nationwide: agricultural products are facing fierce competition as Vietnam joins the TPP. If farmers do not have access to information technology and do not change their production methods to create high-yield, high-quality, and efficient products, Vietnamese agricultural products will face the risk of losing even in their own market. Therefore, organizing computer and internet training for farmers is extremely important to improve their understanding, promote the movement of farmers applying information technology to agricultural production, and thereby effectively apply it to production, promote economic development, and improve the lives of farmers."
Ms. Pham Thi Hong Mai, Deputy Director of IPC Communication Services Development Company ( thuộc VNPT Group) - representing the organizing unit of the competition, shared: “As the communication unit for VNPT Group, over the years, IPC Company has proposed and successfully organized many community programs. The Farmers with IT Competition is considered the first playground for farmers in the field of information technology.”
The 2016 "Farmers and Information Technology" competition was held in two rounds: a selection round in 63 provinces and cities, and a national round held in Hanoi on October 1, 2016. Eligible participants were outstanding farmer members recognized by the Farmers' Association at various levels for their achievements in production and business over the past years.
The prize system includes: 1 First Prize worth 30 million VND; 2 Second Prizes worth 20 million VND each; 3 Third Prizes worth 10 million VND each; and 57 Consolation Prizes worth 3 million VND each.
The Organizing Committee is confident that with the impartial work of the Judging Panel, they will find and honor 63 outstanding farmers representing over ten million members of the Vietnam Farmers' Association at the Award Ceremony, broadcast live on VTC16 television channel on October 2, 2016. These are pioneering individuals in effectively applying information technology in agricultural and rural production, contributing to narrowing the gap between rural and urban areas in terms of awareness and enjoyment of the benefits that IT brings.
