From lush green onion fields to large-scale deer farms, farmers in Quynh Anh commune are gradually changing their production mindset. Amidst the scorching sun of late June, the onion fields in Quynh Anh commune remain bustling with people harvesting and tending to the crops. From early morning until late at night, pumps and automatic sprinkler irrigation systems operate continuously to maintain the green color of the onion fields. On the field edges, temporary shelters are erected to serve as collection points for agricultural products before trucks from distributors arrive to weigh and transport them for sale.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thien's family (Hamlet 4) is currently mobilizing 3-4 laborers to harvest onions in order to deliver them to traders on time. According to Mr. Thien, onions are harvested once a month, with an average price of 10,000 VND/kg, but currently the price fluctuates between 7,000-8,000 VND/kg. While previously farmers had to take their produce to the market themselves or find buyers, selling their products is now much easier thanks to members of the Club of Excellent Farmers and Businesspeople acting as intermediaries for purchasing their produce.

"I just focus on taking care of the plants to ensure product quality, and someone else connects us with buyers. This gives farmers more peace of mind in their production," Mr. Thien shared. This is also clear evidence of the change in the production mindset of the people of Quynh Anh. Instead of cultivating individually and each household finding its own market as before, many farmers have proactively linked together, built concentrated production areas, applied clean processes, and targeted markets with higher demands such as businesses, supermarkets, or retail chains.

One of the "leading figures" of the cooperative model is Ms. Pham Thi Suu, Deputy Head of the Club of Excellent Farmers in Production and Business in the commune. Not only does she directly produce vegetables, but she has also become a major buyer of green onions in the locality.

Every day, she collects tens of tons of whole onions to supply wholesale markets and supermarket chains in the North and Central regions. In addition, she has contracts to supply processed green onions to many businesses in industrial zones in the South and instant noodle factories. On average, she collects 3-5 tons of onions daily, and this can reach 6-7 tons during peak periods.

According to Ms. Suu, the cooperative model helps onion growers overcome the worry of "bumper harvest, low prices." With a stable market, farmers can proactively invest in production, and businesses can rest assured about the quality of their raw materials. In addition, her facility provides regular employment for about 20 local workers in the collection, processing, and packaging stages.

Also in Hop Ky hamlet, Mr. Nguyen Gia Minh is one of the dynamic farmers who both directly produces and takes on the role of transporting and selling agricultural products. His family maintains 4 sao (approximately 0.4 hectares) of onions, and each day they purchase 2-3 tons to transport to Thanh Hoa, Nam Dinh, Hanoi and many other localities.

This distribution network has contributed to the rapid circulation of agricultural products, reducing the problem of surplus during harvest season. Not only Ms. Suu and Mr. Minh, but many other members of the Club, such as Mr. Pham Dinh Giang and Mr. Bui Duy Son, are also taking on the role of large-scale purchasing agents.

The effectiveness of the model became even more apparent this year when onion production increased but prices plummeted. If not harvested and sold promptly, onions easily spoil. Faced with this reality, the club members proactively sought markets, organized purchasing and transportation to "rescue" the farmers' produce. On average, the group purchased 50-55 tons of green onions and other vegetables daily for distribution to many provinces and cities.

This activity not only helps people minimize losses, but also builds confidence, encouraging them to boldly expand production and gradually form specialized commodity farming areas.

Besides green onions – considered the "green gold" of the sandy soil of Quynh Anh – the area is also famous for its deer farming for antler velvet. Mr. Ho Ba Thuong, Chairman of the Deer Farming Cooperative and also Chairman of the Club of Excellent Farmers in Production and Business, currently owns a farm covering over 2000 hectares with a herd of over 100 deer – the largest in the locality. Each year, the farm generates an income of approximately 700 million VND. In addition to selling fresh antler velvet, he also develops many processed products such as dried sliced antler velvet, antler velvet soaked in honey, antler velvet wine, and supplies breeding deer nationwide.

The difference is that Mr. Thuong has combined production development with experiential tourism. Visitors from coastal tourist areas are brought to visit the farm, directly witnessing the process of harvesting antlers and processing products on-site, or collaborating with households specializing in processing deer antler products in the area, thereby building trust in the quality of the goods.

Currently, the cooperative has about 100 members. In addition to providing breeding stock and transferring technology, the unit also purchases fresh deer antlers from its members. Some processed products have achieved OCOP 3-star certification, contributing to increasing the economic value of deer farming.

According to Mr. Tran Minh Chinh, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Quynh Anh commune, the establishment of the Club of Excellent Farmers in Production and Business with 39 members has created a "common home" for dynamic farmers. Club members operate in many fields such as vegetable production, livestock farming, aquaculture, cooperatives, trade, and agricultural enterprises.

Most importantly, this is a place where members can share experiences, provide technical support, connect with markets, find outlets for their products, and protect each other's rights. In the near future, the Club plans to recruit 12 more members working in the fields of vegetable farming and freshwater fish farming to expand its network.

According to the leaders of the commune's Farmers' Association, the greatest value that the model brings lies not only in revenue or profit but also in changing the production mindset of the people. From fragmented production where everyone worked independently, farmers now know how to work together to build raw material areas, share techniques, regulate production, and proactively connect with consumers.

During a recent inspection of new economic models, Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung, Chairman of the Nghe An Provincial Farmers' Association, acknowledged the effectiveness of the Club's activities and suggested that the Quynh Anh Commune Farmers' Association continue to expand production-consumption linkage models and build agricultural product value chains to increase income for its members.

Alongside the development of collaborative models, local authorities and Farmers' Associations at all levels have also implemented many practical support solutions to promote sustainable production linkages and foster a green economy. By June 2026, the Farmers' Association of Quynh Anh commune was coordinating the management of outstanding loans exceeding 57.7 billion VND from banks, facilitating loans for 893 households to invest in production. The Farmers' Support Fund also disbursed 1 billion VND for two projects raising deer and cartilaginous eels for commercial purposes.

In addition to capital, the Association also supplied over 339 tons of fertilizer on a deferred payment basis, helping farmers reduce the financial burden at the beginning of the planting season. Notably, the trend of green agriculture is being strongly embraced by local people. Nearly 56 hectares of vegetables and root crops are produced according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards. Farmers are gradually replacing chemical fertilizers with organic fertilizers, microbial fertilizers, and biological preparations to improve soil quality and enhance the quality of agricultural products.

Furthermore, digital transformation has become an "extended arm" for farmers in Quynh Anh commune. Accordingly, members actively use Zalo and Facebook to promote products, update market prices, share production techniques, and connect with consumers. Online exchange groups help to transmit information quickly, providing timely support during disease outbreaks or when there is a need to sell agricultural products.

From lush green onion fields to large-scale deer farms, the story in Quynh Anh shows that when farmers know how to cooperate, build value chains together, and proactively adapt to market demands, agriculture not only creates products but also generates added value.

In the context of climate change, fluctuating input prices, and volatile markets, the spirit of solidarity combined with modern production thinking is becoming the foundation for farmers in Quynh Anh to confidently build a green, sustainable agriculture and continue to prosper on their homeland.
