Farmers pooled their own money to build a volleyball court for their neighbors.
(Baonghean.vn) - InIn Phan Dang Luu hamlet, Nam Thanh commune (Yen Thanh district), there is a farming family. He voluntarily spent over 10 million VND to build a volleyball court for the villagers.
This is the family of farmer couple Nguyen Duy Tan and Phan Thi Huong. Their lives depend mainly on a few acres of rice paddies, and their three children are all of school age. Compared to many households in the village, their family's economic situation is average. However, recently they decided to spend over 10 million VND to build a volleyball court for the village.
Mr. Tan said: “We live opposite the village cultural center, and every afternoon, many villagers gather here to play sports. The volleyball movement in the village is very strong, and I myself enjoy playing volleyball. Seeing that everyone was passionate about sports but didn't have a place to play, I discussed it with my wife and we decided to use our own money to build a volleyball court for the village.” After saving enough money, Mr. Tan proactively planned to buy materials and then hired workers to build it.

Besides cultivating 3 acres of land for crops, to make ends meet, Mr. Tan works as a construction worker every day, while Ms. Huong takes care of the housework and runs a small grocery store to earn extra income for the family. Thanks to diligent farming, crop diversification, and careful saving, the family has enough to eat and wear. And because of the local community's initiative, Mr. Tan and Ms. Huong readily helped the neighborhood build a volleyball court for the community. In addition to building the court, buying posts and nets, Mr. Tan also installed a lighting system. As a result, since the new court was built, more and more people have come to play sports there.

The Phan Dang Luu hamlet's cultural center was inherited from the former kindergarten grounds of Nam Thanh commune. For a long time, the hamlet's residents used the schoolyard as a volleyball court, but the court surface was damaged. Meanwhile, the sports movement in Phan Dang Luu hamlet is very strong, consistently leading Nam Thanh commune for many years. Mr. Nguyen Nhu Thanh, the hamlet head, said: “Our hamlet is strongest in volleyball. In 2015 alone, both the women's volleyball team and the elderly's recreational volleyball team won first prize in the entire commune. Besides the men's, women's, youth, and elderly recreational volleyball teams, the hamlet also has 13 volleyball teams from 13 neighborhood groups, so the volleyball movement in the hamlet is very strong. We have also planned to contribute to building a volleyball court, but we haven't had enough funds to do so yet.”

Thanks to people like him, the hamlet is becoming more spacious, clean, and beautiful, and the people have a place to exercise and play sports. Since the new football field with its lighting system was built, many days the villagers and young people play football until 10 or 11 pm before resting.”
Currently, Phan Dang Luu hamlet has 3 volleyball courts to serve the needs of players of all ages, but only one court has been built with investment from Mr. Tan's family. The other 2 courts are temporarily used by residents who pooled money to buy balls and nets.
