Farmers improvise weeding and hilling machines for corn from old motorcycles.

(Baonghean.vn) - Driven by a passion for innovation, Phan Thanh Hung, residing in Ha Suu hamlet, Tan Phu commune, Tan Ky district (Nghe An province), has self-made two multi-functional agricultural machines to serve production.

Born and raised in a purely agricultural rural area, where farmers toiled daily in the fields and cared for crops, especially during the peak production season when they raced against time, Hung pondered how to invent a multi-functional machine to help farmers in their production while saving costs. After a period of research, he successfully created the multi-functional agricultural machine at the end of 2015, and it has been tested in spring and autumn crop production.

The advantages of this machine are its functions such as plowing, harrowing, weeding, and furrowing, all controlled by a very simple, convenient, and easy-to-use motion mechanism, suitable for both upland and paddy fields. Through testing, each plot of land prepared for planting by the machine takes only about 1 hour, with fuel costs ranging from 20,000 to 30,000 VND.

These two machines were made by Mr. Phan Thanh Hung himself.

Mr. Phan Thanh Hung shared: “Once we have an idea, we have to research each process and detail to ensure it is as suitable and convenient as possible. The engine must be easy to use, and the equipment must be easy to assemble and disassemble depending on our needs. If we want to plow, we attach the plowing equipment; if we want to harrow, we attach the harrowing equipment. We can adjust the depth as we like.”

Hung also invented a machine for fertilizing and weeding corn plants. This machine simultaneously performs two functions: fertilizing and weeding, thus reducing time and labor, and ensuring even fertilization across the field, resulting in higher yields.

Mr. Hung used machinery to support his family's production and helped many households with land preparation.

What's remarkable is that the two machines Mr. Hung successfully built used old motorcycle engines and other parts made from readily available iron and steel materials, thus keeping the investment cost low. According to Mr. Hung, each multi-purpose machine is worth between 7 and 10 million VND.

Not satisfied with the agricultural machines he has invented, Phan Thanh Hung is now continuing his research, adding more useful features, and plans to invent a multi-functional agricultural machine to serve farmers in large-scale farming, reducing land preparation and cultivation costs, improving economic efficiency, and moving towards sustainable agricultural production.
