These days, farmers in Thanh Chuong district are urgently harvesting corn from Lam River. The corn crop is good, and the farmers are excited.

Thanh Chuong district has thousands of hectares of corn distributed in the communes of Xuan Duong, Minh Tien, Dai Dong, Ngoc Son, Kim Bang, Mai Giang... Taking advantage of the sunny spell before the monsoon season, farmers in the communes along the Lam River and its tributaries such as Xuan Duong, Minh Tien, Minh Son... are urgently harvesting winter-spring corn. Mr. Le Van Luong (52 years old) in Duong Tam hamlet, Xuan Duong commune, is harvesting corn on the field and said: This corn crop, his family planted 6 sao with the varieties NK6275, 8282. When the corn bloomed, he sold 3 sao to TH Milk Company for 5 million VND, and the remaining 3 sao were harvested for livestock farming. This year's corn crop is better than the previous winter-spring crop. With 3 sao of old corn, I expect to harvest about 8 - 9 quintals of dry corn. Photo: Huy Thu

Ms. Le Thi Khanh (49 years old), a resident in the same village, shared: This corn crop, her family planted 2 sao of NK 6275 variety. Thanks to good care, the plants are tall, the flowers are big, and the expected yield is 3.5 quintals of dry grain/sao. According to Ms. Khanh, the cost of planting 3 sao of corn is more than 1.5 million VND, including the cost of buying seeds, fertilizer, land pounding, sowing..., after deducting expenses, there is still income. Before harvesting corn, local people simultaneously strip the leaves and break off the tops to dry the corn. Green corn leaves are used by households as animal feed. Mr. Nguyen Chi Tu - Head of Hamlet 3, Minh Tien Commune, is stripping corn leaves in the field and said: This corn crop, people in the village grow many types of corn, but the genetically modified corn variety is still the best quality: tall plants, do not fall over, large ears, many grains.
