Thanh Chuong district has thousands of hectares of corn fields distributed across the communes of Xuan Duong, Minh Tien, Dai Dong, Ngoc Son, Kim Bang, Mai Giang... Mr. Le Van Luong (52 years old), residing in Duong Tam hamlet, Xuan Duong commune, was harvesting corn in the field when he said: "This year, my family planted 6 sao (approximately 0.6 hectares) of corn with the NK6275 and 8282 varieties. When the corn started to ear, we sold 3 sao to TH Milk Company for 5 million VND, and we're harvesting the remaining 3 sao to feed our livestock. This year's corn crop is more bountiful than last year's Winter-Spring crop. With 3 sao of mature corn, I expect to harvest about 8-9 quintals of dry corn kernels." (Photo: Huy Thu)

Ms. Le Thi Khanh (49 years old), a resident of the same village, shared: "This corn crop, my family planted 2 sao (approximately 0.2 hectares) of NK 6275 variety. Thanks to good care, the plants are tall, the ears are large, and we expect to yield 3.5 quintals of dry kernels per sao." According to Ms. Khanh, the cost of planting 3 sao of corn was over 1.5 million VND, including the cost of seeds, fertilizer, land preparation, and planting... After deducting expenses, there was still some income. Photo: Huy Thu

Before harvesting the corn, people in the area simultaneously strip the leaves and break off the tops to dry the ears. The green corn leaves are used by households as animal feed. Mr. Nguyen Chi Tu, head of Hamlet 3, Minh Tien commune, who was stripping corn leaves in the field, said: "This corn season, the villagers planted many types of corn, but the genetically modified corn variety still has the best quality: tall plants, no lodging, large ears, and many kernels. However, because of early harvesting to plant the new corn crop in time, many corn fields are not yet mature, the kernels are not plump, which will affect yield and production." (Photo: Huy Thu)

During the corn harvest season, households will decide whether to harvest each plot individually or all at once, based on the weather conditions, as long as they can both dry the corn and prepare the land for planting in a timely manner... Photo: Huy Thu

For each plot of land, including both plowing and sowing, households pay the plow operator 200,000 VND; if only plowing is done, the fee is 150,000 VND. The corn harvest season is an opportunity for those who work as plow operators to earn extra income. Photo: Huy Thu
