After enduring unexplained itching and swelling on his face for over six months, artist Chi Trung was finally cured thanks to the discovery of a Toxocara parasitic infection.
Meritorious Artist Chí Trung recently shared his journey of over six months battling intense itching all over his body and facial swelling due to a Toxocara (dog roundworm) larval infection. After a long period of self-treatment without success, the artist recovered quickly thanks to proper medical intervention and adherence to the treatment protocol.
The prolonged symptoms can have serious health consequences.
For six months, artist Chi Trung frequently experienced intense itching at night, causing chronic insomnia. Notably, on many mornings upon waking, his lips, nose, and eyes were severely swollen. Initially, many people around him attributed the cause to alcohol consumption, but even after changing his lifestyle and limiting social gatherings, his condition did not improve but worsened.
The cause was found to be the larvae of the canine roundworm Toxocara.
After a general check-up showed normal heart, liver, kidney, and lung function, he decided to seek treatment at a parasitology clinic. There, blood tests revealed he tested positive for Toxocara roundworm larvae.
According to experts, this type of parasite can enter the human body through various routes, such as direct contact with pets, eating raw vegetables or undercooked seafood, or from unsanitary living environments. Upon receiving the results, artist Chi Trung immediately began treatment with specific medication.
Treatment effectiveness and community advice
The recovery process was quite rapid, with the itching almost disappearing after the first night of treatment. After a week of treatment, the artist's skin had returned to normal. To prevent reinfection, he also regularly deworms his family's pets.
Artist Chi Trung emphasized that sharing his personal story aims to warn the community about the importance of proactively seeking specialist medical attention when experiencing unusual symptoms, avoiding self-diagnosis which can prolong treatment time. Currently, in his sixties, he is enjoying a stable retirement, dedicating time to sports, travel, and health care with his girlfriend, Ý Lan.
