Meritorious Artist Hanh Thuy: Journey to receive Master's degree at age 48
At the age of 48, Meritorious Artist Hanh Thuy completed her Master of Arts program, accepted selling her car, losing 4-5kg and often lacking sleep to pursue knowledge.
A journey of learning full of determination
Meritorious Artist Hanh Thuy, born in 1976, has just completed her studies and received a Master's degree in Cinema and Television Arts from the Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema at the age of 48. Her learning journey was not easy, requiring extraordinary sacrifice and effort.
The artist shared that the process of studying for a Master's degree faced many difficulties. She had to balance work, teaching and studying, leading to a state of frequent overload. "Sometimes I only slept 2-3 hours a day for a whole month, so my eyes had dark circles, my face became thinner, and I lost 4-5 kg," she said. In addition to the pressure on time and health, she also had difficulty finding documents for her essays and theses.
To focus on her studies and deal with some personal matters, Hanh Thuy decided to sell her car. She said she does not regret this decision because she sees the car as just a means of transportation and has now bought a new one. For her, studying is to challenge and train herself.
Balance between lecture hall and stage
Being both an active artist and a lecturer, Meritorious Artist Hanh Thuy has found a way to arrange her time reasonably. She said that she has now found a "fairly good" balance by concentrating her teaching schedule on two days a week, including three sessions: morning, afternoon and evening. The remaining time, she focuses on her artistic work.
Studying for a Master's degree has greatly supported her teaching work. Hanh Thuy believes that the learning process has helped her broaden her thinking, approach research methods, think critically and have a more multi-dimensional view. "Studying for a Master's degree has helped me understand that I teach not only to convey, but also to open up and accompany the growth of learners in a better way," she shared.
Joy from student growth
As a teacher, Meritorious Artist Hanh Thuy affirms that her greatest pride is witnessing the growth of her students. She is happy to see her students become more confident and steady from their first days of confusion.
However, she believes that success alone is not enough, kindness is also needed. "The greatest joy and happiness of a teacher is to see students grow up, become useful, kind, responsible, grateful, loving people and stand firm in life," the artist expressed.
She also learned a lot from young people, from their dynamism and determination to the way they work and live. This is also the motivation for her to constantly learn and improve herself.
Strong support from family
To be able to wholeheartedly pursue her passion for studying and her career, Meritorious Artist Hanh Thuy always has the support of her family. She is fortunate to have siblings who share the responsibility of taking care of her parents, and a husband and children who always understand and support her.
When she has no work schedule, she spends all her time with her family, cooking, teaching her children and gathering around the dinner table. She is proud to be a close friend of her children, always maintaining the habit of talking and sharing to understand her children, especially when they are in adulthood.
