Meritorious Artist Phi Dieu and artist Thanh Hien: A reunion of two veteran "grandmothers" of Vietnamese cinema.
Meritorious Artist Phi Dieu and artist Thanh Hien moved many hearts when they reunited for a new project. Despite being in their late 100s and early 80s respectively, the two actresses continue to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to their work.
The recent reunion between Meritorious Artist Phi Dieu and artist Thanh Hien in an art project has attracted considerable attention from the audience. Despite being exactly 20 years apart in age, both veteran female artists are iconic figures, associated with the image of hardworking and self-sacrificing grandmothers and mothers on Vietnamese screens for decades.

Meritorious Artist Phi Dieu: The independent spirit of a 94-year-old female artist.
Meritorious Artist Phi Dieu, whose real name is Nguyen Thi Phi Phi, born in 1932, is one of the oldest artists still actively working in the entertainment industry. Originating from the resistance arts movement, she worked as a radio announcer at the Voice of Vietnam before transitioning to professional acting after 1975. With her benevolent face and natural acting style, she left a deep impression through films such as "White Blouse," "Beside the Red Leaves," and "Happiness Awaited."

Notably, at the age of 94, Meritorious Artist Phi Dieu still earns the admiration of many younger generations for maintaining the habit of driving her motorbike to filming locations and events. She always maintains a serious and punctual work ethic and refuses to rely on her children for her daily tasks. Besides her brilliant career, she is also known for her exemplary marriage to the late musician Phan Nhan – the author of the famous song "Hanoi, Faith and Hope."

Actress Thanh Hien: A turning point from housewife to star of a 'hundred-billion-dollar' film.
In contrast to her senior colleagues who started their artistic careers early, actress Thanh Hien (born in 1954) spent many years as a housewife and struggled to make a living before venturing into film. Despite not having received professional training, she quickly won over audiences with her genuine and gentle acting style in minor and supporting roles in Southern Vietnamese television dramas.

The most brilliant milestone in her career was her role as Mrs. Hai in the film "Flip Face 7: One Wish" (2024) directed by Ly Hai. Her emotionally moving portrayal of motherhood contributed to the film achieving a record-breaking revenue of 482.5 billion VND, making Thanh Hien the leading actress in a 100 billion VND film at the age of 70. Despite achieving great success, she maintains a simple lifestyle, using ride-hailing services to get to film sets and dedicating time to caring for her family.

At the meeting, artist Thanh Hien expressed her admiration for the passion for her profession shown by her senior colleague Phi Dieu. The dedication of these two female artists not only contributes to the development of Vietnamese cinema but also serves as a great source of inspiration for the younger generation of actors regarding professional ethics and a spirit of persistent hard work.
