A female nurse wholeheartedly dedicates herself to her patients in the red soil region of Phu Quy.

At the Northwest Regional General Hospital in Thai Hoa town, nursing graduate Dong Thi Khanh Hoa is always admired and respected by her colleagues and patients. Throughout her 35 years in the profession, she has always been dedicated to her work and shown great love, care, and concern for her patients.

Meeting Ms. Dong Thi Khanh Hoa (born in 1970) at the hospital, one truly understands the busy life of a nurse. As the Head of the Nursing Department, she manages, oversees, and communicates with staff, while also directly caring for and inquiring about the health of patients.

Taking advantage of her limited free time, she shared about her journey and her passion for the medical profession.

Born and raised in Nghia My commune (Thai Hoa town), from a young age, Ms. Dong Thi Khanh Hoa dreamed of becoming a doctor to contribute to curing diseases and saving lives. At that time, both her parents worked at the General Hospital.Nghia Dan district(now the Northwest Regional General Hospital) has always supported their daughter in following in their footsteps. Therefore, after graduating from the Nghe Tinh Medical School in 1990, the young woman returned to work at the hospital in her hometown, where her parents were working.

While working, Ms. Dong Thi Khanh Hoa continuously learned from experience to improve her professional skills and cultivated medical ethics, earning recognition from colleagues and superiors. As a result, she was promoted to a management position, notably as Head of the Nursing Department from 2010 to the present.

In this role, she advised the Board of Directors on the implementation, training, inspection, supervision, and motivation of staff members to strive for excellence in completing assigned tasks, and directed the system.nursingNurses, midwives, and technicians uphold high standards of nursing ethics.

Annually, the organization provides training for nurses, midwives, and technicians on infection control; communication and interpersonal skills to ensure patient satisfaction; safe injection practices; safe medication use in patient care; care for patients on ventilators; and guidance on performing professional technical procedures…

In addition to performing her managerial duties well, Ms. Dong Thi Khanh Hoa also focuses on scientific research, contributing to solving problems in medical examination and treatment at her workplace. Continuously from 2012 to the present, she has had scientific research projects recognized by the hospital and the Department of Health.

It is noteworthy that her research topics are highly practical and effective, easily applicable to the situation of medical examination and treatment at the facility. Typical examples include: "Assessment of the current state of safe injection practices at the Northwest Regional General Hospital"; "The current state of operating room environmental control at 3 district hospitals in Nghe An province"; "Survey of the current state of pressure ulcers in patients and some related factors"...

According to Ms. Khanh Hoa, working as a nurse always requires a lot of sacrifice. Because the job of caring for patients demands utmost dedication from nursing staff, she and her colleagues always dedicate their time to patients from the moment they are admitted to the hospital until they are discharged. Dealing with seriously ill patients or those with infectious diseases carries a very high risk of infection.

Due to the nature of her work, she and her fellow nurses often have little time for their families, even during holidays. This is especially true given her difficult personal circumstances: her husband passed away early, leaving her to raise her young daughter alone while balancing her work responsibilities with family duties. There are times when, to fulfill her duties, she has to sacrifice her daughter's well-being.

Furthermore, nurse Dong Thi Khanh Hoa is also known for her compassionate heart and active participation in charitable work, acting as a bridge between philanthropists and the poor, flood victims, and people in remote areas. Every year, she and the hospital staff connect with the Tri Le Border Guard Station (Que Phong district) to organize health check-ups and distribute gifts to people in border areas.

She also collaborated with the hospital's Nursing Association to organize haircuts and bathing for patients, and set up a "Free Clothing Closet" for them.patientpoor; appealing to philanthropists to donate money and gifts to patients in particularly difficult circumstances.

"I've noticed that there are many people around me facing difficult and unfortunate circumstances, especially those who are sick, lonely, or require long-term treatment. Therefore, I always try to connect with and help those in need," said Khanh Hoa.

For her professional and social contributions, nurse Dong Thi Khanh Hoa has been recognized with dozens of commendations. These include a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister, a Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Health, two Certificates of Merit from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, and four Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province.
