According to Dr. Tran Quoc Viet - Deputy Director of Bong Son General Hospital (Hoai Nhon District, Binh Dinh), the patient was admitted to the hospital with numbness in his limbs and difficulty speaking. About 30 minutes later, the patient's condition worsened, he stopped breathing, his heart beat slowly, and his breathing was slow. After that, the medical staff intubated and put the patient on a ventilator. However, the patient did not improve and died on the way to the provincial General Hospital on the night of July 10.
"I have never seen a case that has turned critical so quickly, while looking at the two snails, it is very simple," said Dr. Viet.
According to the patient's family, at around 5 p.m. the same day, Ms. S. ate two sea snails. After eating, Ms. S. vomited, had numbness in her mouth, hands, and a stiff neck. Her family bought medicine for her to take, but it did not help, so they took her to Bong Son Regional General Hospital for emergency treatment.
According to the doctor's initial diagnosis, the patient suffered from food poisoning due to eating sea snails; central nervous system poisoning affected respiratory and cardiovascular functions, with symptoms similar to puffer fish poisoning.
