While at her rented room, Phuong received a phone call from her older sister asking her to find someone to "go with a client." That same evening, this 9X generation female student and her roommate went to a motel to engage in prostitution, but were caught.

On May 20th, after reviewing the criminal conduct of Vu Thi Phong Phuong (born in 1995, residing in Dien Bien district, Dien Bien province), the Appellate Panel of the Hanoi People's Court decided to accept the defendant's appeal and change the sentence from 9 months of imprisonment to a suspended sentence for the crime of "Brokering prostitution".

Reviewing the case, the Hanoi Court determined that around May 2015, Vu Thi Mai (born in 1991, Phuong's older sister) had brokered a prostitution deal for a girl with Tran Tuan Anh (born in 1990, residing in Tay Ho district) for 1.5 million VND per session. On the afternoon of June 29, 2015, Tuan Anh called Mai again, asking her to prepare two more prostitutes for him.

For luring others into prostitution, Vu Thi Phong Phuong has been sentenced.

Accepting the client's request, Mai immediately called her younger sister, Vu Phong Phuong (a student at a college in Hanoi), and asked her to bring someone else along to sell sex to the client. Turning to her roommate, Cao Bich N (born in 1994, also from Dien Bien province), Phuong nodded in agreement.

At approximately 10 PM that same day, Phuong and N took a taxi to pick up Mai, and all three went to a guesthouse on Lac Long Quan Street. There, Mai met Tuan Anh and received 3.3 million VND for prostitution. Afterwards, Phuong and N went into two rooms of the guesthouse to serve Tuan Anh and another young man, but were discovered and caught red-handed by the police.

During the investigation, the police handled the case administratively, and on March 11, 2016, the Tay Ho District People's Court sentenced the two sisters, Vu Thi Mai and Vu Thi Phong Phuong, to 48 months and 9 months imprisonment respectively for the crime of "Brokering prostitution".

Because she was attending a college in Hanoi, Phuong appealed, requesting a suspended sentence. Meanwhile, her older sister accepted the immediate execution of the sentence from the first-instance trial. In conclusion, the Hanoi Court accepted Vu Thi Phong Phuong's appeal.
