Female student was extorted for money and gold for 3 years.
Thảo fabricated a story that Trang had beaten up her friend's younger sibling and demanded money from Trang, threatening to tell Trang's mother if she didn't comply.
On April 6th, the Security Investigation Agency of the Hung Yen Provincial Police announced that it had issued a decision to initiate a criminal case, indict the suspect, and order the temporary detention of Truong Thi Thao (21 years old, residing in Ngo Quyen commune, Tien Lu district, Hung Yen province) for the crime of extortion.

According to investigative documents, in 2012, Truong Thi Thao (a 11th-grade student at Tien Lu District High School) and some friends met with Nguyen Thu Trang (19 years old, a 9th-grade student at Hong Quang Secondary School, An Thi District). Thao fabricated a story that Trang had beaten her friend's younger sibling and demanded money from Trang, threatening to tell Trang's mother if she refused.
Afraid her family would find out, Trang repeatedly stole money and gold from her family to give to Thảo. Knowing that Trang came from a well-off family with a gold shop, Thảo tried every way to extort money from her. Seeing how easy it was to get money from Trang, Thảo constantly demanded money from her.
The amounts were regularly between 2-3 million VND, with the largest amount being 11 million VND, along with various gold jewelry. In addition, Thao repeatedly pressured Trang to buy personal items for her, such as an electric bicycle and an iPhone.
On February 28th, Thao continued to send threatening messages, demanding that Trang give her 40 million VND and gold jewelry. After losing a significant amount of money and worrying about the impact on her studies, Trang decided to report the incident to the police. Immediately after receiving the report, the Security Investigation Agency of the Hung Yen Provincial Police, in coordination with other functional units, caught Truong Thi Thao red-handed receiving 20 million VND and various gold necklaces from Nguyen Thu Trang.
At the police station, Thao confessed that from 2012 until her arrest, she had threatened and extorted 300 million VND from Trang, along with various gold jewelry. It is known that Thao's father passed away, and her mother left to remarry in Central Vietnam. Thao lived with her aunt and uncle from a young age. The lack of proper parental guidance led to this tragic incident. The case serves as a cautionary tale for parents, urging them to pay more attention to their children to prevent similar unfortunate events from happening again.
