Female athlete breaks national sports festival record
Athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh from Bac Giang province won the 1,500m race with her best result ever.
On the morning of November 28, Nguyen Thi Oanh entered her first competition at the 2018 National Sports Festival in the 1,500m category. Despite fierce competition from 11 other athletes, with her courage and many years of international competition experience, Oanh distributed her strength appropriately in each race, then accelerated to reach the finish line first.
Nguyen Thi Oanh won two gold medals at the 2017 SEA Games in the 1,500m and 5,000m events. |
The result of 4 minutes 14 seconds 67 helped Oanh win the gold medal, breaking the Games record. The old record belonged to former athlete Truong Thanh Hang (4 minutes 18 seconds). This is also Nguyen Thi Oanh's best achievement ever in the 1,500m event. Previously, she achieved a result of 4 minutes 14 seconds 83 at the Ho Chi Minh City Open Athletics Tournament in July. At the 2019 SEA Games, she also won a gold medal in this event, which is not her forte, with a result of 4 minutes 20 seconds 51.
At this year’s national sports festival, Nguyen Thi Oanh still has two more events to compete in. On the morning of November 30, she entered the 5,000m event and on December 1, she continued to compete in the 3,000m obstacle race. These are all considered the forte of the athlete from Bac Giang. However, sharing with Ngoisao.net, Oanh modestly said that she only set the goal of trying to contribute and compete with all her might.
