The family of Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan in Sen 1 hamlet, Kim Lien commune, invested in renovating a pond with an area of nearly 1 hectare to raise fish. He said that the pond mainly raises two types of fish: grass carp and silver carp. The fish's food mainly consists of grass, sprouted rice, and is supplemented with commercial feed.
After nearly a year, the grass carp reach a weight of 2-2.5 kg/fish, and the silver carp reach 1.5 kg/fish, with a total harvest of 5-6 tons. The market price ranges from 40,000 to 50,000 VND/kg. On average, the family earns over 200 million VND per year, and after deducting expenses, they make a profit of over 100 million VND.

Also in Kim Lien commune, the family of Mr. Nguyen Ha Trung in Sen 3 hamlet has chosen an intensive grass carp farming model with two ponds, one for raising fingerlings and the other for raising commercial fish. He chose a mixed farming formula of 700 grass carp, 200 common carp, and 300 silver carp in each farming cycle. The feed for all types of fish consists of young grass and sprouted rice.

With the above method, Mr. Trung shared: Because the fish fry were raised to a larger size, they could be harvested after only 6 months when transferred to commercial ponds. Grass carp reached a weight of 2 kg/fish. The total revenue from the two ponds, covering nearly 1 hectare, brought the family 140 million VND, and after deducting expenses, they earned a profit of 80 million VND per harvest. Thus, the family can harvest two harvests per year, earning a profit of over 150 million VND from this model.
Currently, Nam Dan district has over 1,000 hectares of freshwater fish farming area with a total annual production of approximately 5,000 - 5,700 tons. Notable models include grass carp and silver carp farming in Kim Lien, Nam Thanh, and Nam Anh communes; rice-fish and lotus-fish farming in Nam Thanh and Nam Loc communes; and rice-fish-pig farming. Pond and lake fish farming is developing quite strongly in Nam Linh, Nam Xuan, Nam Loc, Nam Thai, and Nam Nghia communes, generating an income of 150 - 200 million VND/hectare/year.
Over the years, the Nam Dan Agricultural Extension Station has focused on the transfer of scientific and technical knowledge through various forms such as: training for agricultural extension officers, collaborators, and farmers; direct transfer through model projects; transferring new breeds and breeding techniques; and organizing field conferences to share experiences and replicate successful and effective models.
