Raising Thai frogs earns nearly 100 million VND/year
(Baonghean.vn) - After less than 3 years of raising Thai frogs, Mr. Pham Van Thuan in Giap Bon hamlet, Long Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, Nghe An has accumulated a lot of experience, each year the model brings in a net profit of nearly 100 million VND.
In 2014, after researching and learning from the experience of an effective frog farming model in Ly Thanh commune, Mr. Thuan converted his garden into cells, each cell 7 square meters, bought nets, ground covers and raised 2,000 frogs. After 2 months of care, the frogs reached a total weight of more than 1 ton, traders came to his house to buy them at a price of 40,000 - 45,000 VND/kg; after deducting expenses, he made a profit of about 20 million VND.
From the initial results, Mr. Thuan expanded the frog farming model and scale in the form of alternating crops, developing the herd to 30,000.
Mr. Thuan said that the model requires little investment but requires meticulous design of the tank, the bottom of the tank must have a slope to facilitate water change. Then, bamboo grates, nets, and floating rafts must be installed for the frogs to live. The average water level in the tank is 20cm.

To help the frogs grow evenly and with little loss, you must choose the same-sized, healthy, undamaged frogs. The frogs must be fed enough food and not starved because they will eat each other, causing loss.
Having accumulated experience, for the past 2 years, Mr. Thuan has actively bred frogs by mating 25 pairs of parent frogs. For breeding frogs, he takes care of them in each period, so it is highly effective. Each pair of breeding frogs can produce 1,000 frogs. After 1 month of care, the frogs are sold for 1,000 - 1,200 VND/frog.
"Raising frogs is simple and has few diseases. You have to change the water twice a day. During the raising process, you have to focus on feeding them at different times so that the frogs can grow well and stay disease-free," Thuan shared.

"From this garden farming model, I will switch to pond farming. Currently, I rent 2 fields for excavators to dig into two ponds and increase the number of meat frogs to nearly 30,000 to improve economic efficiency," Mr. Thuan added.
