(Baonghean.vn) - This is the model of Mr. Nguyen Huu Dai's family in Hamlet 4, Tuong Son Commune (Anh Son District). Raising chickens using fermented feed has brought them hundreds of millions of dong in income.

Our first impression was that Mr. Dai's family farm was very clean, with a scientifically arranged system of chicken feeders and waterers. On an area of over 3 hectares, he has arranged 6 rows of chicken coops, with a total area of 700 square meters.2, which includes 4 rows of chicken coops for broiler chickens, 1 coop for laying hens, and 1 coop specifically for raising chicks.

Thanks to the silage method, Mr. Dai's family's chickens thrive and their meat is delicious.

Each year, his family raises three batches of free-range chickens, with each batch consisting of approximately 2,500 birds. Previously, raising chickens using traditional methods often resulted in disease outbreaks, so in 2014, after researching in books and newspapers, he started using active biological enzymes made from herbs to ferment feed for livestock and poultry.

Accordingly, he mixed 200 grams of probiotics with about 20 to 30 kg of finely ground fresh cassava, then fermented it in a cement tank or plastic bag for 15 days until it had a sour smell, at which point it was ready for livestock to consume. Since using this fermented feed, Mr. Dai's chickens have suffered fewer diseases, gained weight faster, and shown high uniformity. Environmental issues have been fundamentally resolved, the foul odor has disappeared, and the mortality rate has decreased to 2%.

Mr. Dai shared: “This silage feed is used in combination with green vegetables, corn bran, and rice bran. Since applying this method, my family's chickens have experienced fewer intestinal and respiratory diseases, so they absorb nutrients better, grow faster, and the meat is delicious and popular with consumers. Especially, it reduces investment costs, so profits are over 30% higher compared to traditional chicken farming. On average, I sell more than 7 tons of chicken meat each year, earning over 500 million VND.”

Besides using the silage method to feed his chickens, Mr. Dai is now applying this method to silage agricultural by-products to feed his cattle, and it is showing promising results.

Raising chickens using fermented feed, as practiced by Mr. Nguyen Huu Dai's family, is an effective economic model that local authorities are organizing for people to learn from and visit in order to replicate it. This model is very suitable for developing livestock farming towards clean, sustainable agriculture. It will also ensure environmental hygiene, disease safety, and improve product quality.
