After traveling to many places to learn about and study different livestock farming models, and seeing that the hill chicken farming model yielded high economic efficiency, in 2010, Ms. Ngo Thi Sam – from Hamlet 4, Nam Thai Commune – began her involvement in hill chicken farming. Initially, she only experimented with raising a hundred chickens, but gradually, with the knowledge she accumulated in caring for and preventing diseases, she became proficient in raising hill chickens in large numbers.
She said: "To ensure the chickens grow quickly, have fewer diseases, and produce firm, flavorful meat, the main feed for the chickens is bran, corn, and rice. The drinking water must be clean, and they should be regularly fed green vegetables and chopped banana stalks. After selling the chickens, the coops need to be thoroughly cleaned to eradicate all diseases. More trees should be planted in the garden to provide space for the chickens to move around..."

| After 4-5 months of raising, the chickens reach a weight of 1.5-1.8 kg/each. |
Because the chickens were of good quality, she didn't have to worry about sales; traders came to buy them directly from her farm every month. Therefore, she confidently increased the number, raising 2-3 batches per year, with 1,500-2,000 chickens each. With a selling price of 100,000-110,000 VND/kg, Ms. Sam earned a net profit of 200 million VND from raising free-range chickens.
She also invested in building enclosed pig farms, annually supplying 2-3 tons of live pigs to the market, earning over 100 million VND. Commenting on Ms. Sam's free-range chicken farming model, Ms. Nguyen Thi Oanh – President of the Women's Association of Nam Thai commune, Nam Dan district – assessed: "Ms. Thai's model of raising free-range chickens combined with pork is an effective and quite sustainable business model, attracting many members in the area to visit and learn from it."
