NVIDIA has confirmed it will not introduce a new GeForce RTX line at CES 2026 due to a severe DRAM shortage, instead focusing entirely on artificial intelligence.

NVIDIA has officially dashed all expectations for its RTX 50 Super graphics card line by confirming it will not introduce any consumer GPUs at CES 2026. This decision ends a five-year streak of the company unveiling new graphics hardware at the biggest technology show of the year, starting in 2021. Instead, NVIDIA will focus entirely on showcasing advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), a field that is generating exceptional profits for the company.

NVIDIA tập trung vào AI thay vì card đồ họa gaming tại CES 2026
Instead of launching the new GeForce RTX series, the entire event will be dedicated to discussing AI.

The cause stems from the GDDR7 component crisis.

The core reason for this disruption lies in a severe global shortage of DRAM components. NVIDIA's latest Blackwell architecture GPUs require GDDR7 memory with a complex structure. Currently, the world's three largest memory manufacturers—Micron, SK Hynix, and Samsung—are all prioritizing their production lines for AI enterprise customers. This customer group offers significantly higher profit margins than the mainstream graphics card market.

Temporary solution: Reviving the RTX 3060 graphics card line.

Current supply constraints are forcing NVIDIA to consider contingency plans. Rumors have emerged suggesting the company may have to restart production of the aging RTX 3060 series. This GPU uses Samsung's GDDR6 memory and 8nm process, which has abundant supply and significantly lower production costs compared to modern cards.

Challenges for the consumer graphics card market

According to Tomshardware's analysis, mainstream users can hardly expect regulatory intervention from the government. Currently, the race to develop AI has become a national strategic issue for technological competition. This means that hardware resources will continue to prioritize data centers and AI over gaming.

Although current graphics card prices haven't fluctuated significantly, experts warn the market may be on the verge of a new price surge. Speculation similar to previous cryptocurrency crises could easily recur if the DRAM shortage persists.
