Russian cars cost from… 15 million VND in Vietnam
Russian cars were once all the rage in Vietnam and now, these legendary models are being sold for prices starting from… 15 million VND.
Like many Soviet products, cars from the land of birch were very popular in the Vietnamese market during the subsidy period. There are brands that have become legendary and the pride of the Vietnamese people such as Lada, UAZ, Gaz Volga.

The old Russian car costs only 15 million VND |
However, for a long time now, Russian cars have gradually disappeared from the streets of Vietnam. Instead, there are Japanese, Korean, German cars... from famous brands such as Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Audi, Mercedes,...
However, Russian cars are not only in the memory of Vietnamese people – those who love Russian goods as well as the Soviet Union in the past. Occasionally, on car forums, people still see classified ads selling used Russian cars. Notably, these models are advertised for prices from only 15 million VND or more.
In June this year, a member of the website banxehoi advertised a 1990 Gaz Volga for sale for only 15 million VND. This is a used 4-door, 5-seat sedan and is confirmed to be a “genuine owner, carefully used and maintained, guaranteed to have no collisions or crashes”.
The car is for sale for 15 million VND, but to get it on the road, the new owner has to spend about 19 million VND to pay for fees and insurance. However, compared to a car, this is a very modest price.
In the Vietnamese market, used Russian cars currently do not have a unified price. While the 1990 Gaz Volga is being sold for 15 million, many pre-1990 Gaz Volga models are being “priced” from 50 million to 80 million.

This car is for collectible purposes only. |
Although the Gaz Volga has traveled nearly 80,000km, it is a civilian car so it still has its value. Meanwhile, the 1954 Gaz 69, although it has only traveled 10,000km, is recommended to be used only for "play". And the asking price is 40 million VND.
The owner of the old Russian car posted: “Need to sell Gaz 69 1954, imported, car still works well. Clearance car from the army. Car is in good condition, engine is very smooth and strong, runs very well. Car is only suitable for collection, display, wedding photography".
The 1992 Lada is more expensive. The car is said to be in good condition, the engine is guaranteed, and all the car's functions work well. In addition, the car is equipped with air conditioning and beautiful paint. Still in good condition, this car costs only 30 million VND.

An old Lada |
In the used car market, while the Gaz Volga has no fixed price range, the Lada has a fairly uniform price. Many people sell used Ladas for around 30 million VND. The owner of a 1989 Lada is selling his car for 35 million VND.
This 35 million Lada is advertised: “The car is newly cleaned, still has a lot of original parts, the 4-speed gearbox is original, the dashboard is beautiful, the engine is extremely strong, you have to drive it to feel the pleasure. The car is 100% confirmed to have no collisions, no minor errors, regular maintenance makes the engine run extremely smoothly.”
On the market, there is only one Lada Niva 2112 from 1989 that is “devalued” from the 30 million range. The Lada “convenient for family use, quiet engine, fuel-efficient” is being offered for sale at 22 million VND and is negotiable.
UAZ is also one of the “legends” in Vietnam. With its aristocratic appearance, Gaz Volga is suitable for rolling on the street. Meanwhile, with its rugged appearance, UAZ is suitable for mountainous roads. Therefore, nowadays, UAZ appears even more than Gaz Volga.
As a result, UAZ is "valuable". A 7-seat UAZ is for sale for 85 million VND. Although quite old, this car is still guaranteed to have "a smooth engine, newly installed air conditioner, super bright H4 lights and fog lights, and good fuel economy". It can be seen that this UAZ is quite expensive because it is carefully "taken care of".
