President Obama argued that the world needs a long-term solution to address climate change. A climate agreement would send a new message to researchers and investors, making them aware that change is necessary and that innovation in energy sources must be promoted.
President Obama emphasized that rising sea levels and global warming could lead to significant economic and security impacts. However, the US President also stated that he believes the world will be able to address the issues related to global warming and that people should not despair.
"Climate change is a major, generational problem. The main message I want to convey is that we will solve this," Obama said.
Earlier, at the opening ceremony of COP21, President Obama acknowledged that the United States is the world's second-largest emitter of greenhouse gases after China and that the US has a major responsibility in addressing climate change.
