This is the latest statement from US President Obama in support of Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.
Current President Obama, who is eager to welcome Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton to replace him in his office, said at a fundraising event for her in New York that the race between the former US Secretary of State and billionaire Donald Trump should not have been as evenly matched as it is now.
However, according to Obama, the political polarization within the country is making this race very close and fiercely competitive.
The first African American president of the United States later explained to a group of donors why a woman had never held the highest office in America.
"There's a reason why we've never had a female president," Obama said. "America is a society still grappling with the rise of women. It's clearly unfair to women."
President Obama often spoke about the role of strong women in his life, such as his mother, grandmother, wife, and daughters.
Recent opinion polls are showing a close race between the two candidates: former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton of the Democratic Party and Republican Donald Trump, a real estate mogul.
"This shouldn't be such a close and unnecessarily tense race, but it is," Obama said. "And the reason isn't Hillary's mistakes or shortcomings, but structural reasons; we (America) are becoming a society that is too polarized," he said.
President Obama also made no secret of his disdain for candidate Donald Trump, with the billionaire questioning whether Obama was born in the United States. However, Trump admitted on Friday that Obama was indeed born in the United States.
President Obama told donors that Trump was nothing like the two candidates he faced in the 2008 and 2012 elections.
"When I ran against John McCain, even though we had profound differences, I couldn't say that he wasn't qualified to be president of the United States," Obama said of his 2008 opponent.
Obama added: "I can't say that voting for Mitt Romney would be a disaster. But with Donald Trump, it's clear he's not qualified to be president."
