This is the latest statement by US President Obama in support of Mrs. Clinton's election campaign.

President Obama, who is eager to welcome Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton to replace him in office, said at a fundraiser for her in New York that the race between the former US Secretary of State and billionaire Donald Trump should not be as close as it is now.

However, according to Mr. Obama, political polarization in the country is making this race close and fiercely competitive.

The first African-American president of the United States later explained to a group of donors why a woman had never held the highest office in the United States.

“There’s a reason we haven’t had a woman president,” Obama said. “America is a society that’s still struggling to see women rise to power. It’s a clear injustice to women.”

President Obama often talks about the role of strong women in his life, such as his mother, grandmother, wife and daughters.

Recent polls show a tight race between former Democratic Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Republican real estate mogul Donald Trump.

“This should not be a close, fraught race, but it is becoming one,” Obama said. “And the reason is not because of any mistakes or failures on Hillary’s part, but because of structural reasons, we have become a very polarized society,” he said.

President Obama also did not hide his disdain for candidate Donald Trump, when the billionaire questioned whether Mr. Obama was born in the United States. However, Mr. Trump had to admit on Friday that Mr. Obama was born in the United States.

President Obama told donors that Mr. Trump is nothing like the two candidates he faced in the 2008 and 2012 elections.

“When I ran against John McCain, despite our profound differences, I couldn't say he was unqualified to be president of the United States,” Obama said of his 2008 opponent.

“I can’t say that voting for Mitt Romney would be a disaster,” Obama added. “But Donald Trump is clearly not qualified to be president.”
