Mr. Bounnhang Volachith was elected President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
On the morning of April 20th in Vientiane, the first session of the 8th National Assembly of Laos convened to elect and approve a series of personnel for the National Assembly, the State, and the Government.

At the session, with a majority vote (145/148), the 8th National Assembly of Laos re-elected Ms. Pany Yathotou, President of the 7th National Assembly, as President of the 8th National Assembly.
Bounpone Buttanavong, Somphan Phengkhammy, Sengnoun Sayalath, and Sisay Ludethmounson were elected as Vice Presidents of the National Assembly.
Immediately after the inauguration of the 8th National Assembly leadership, the Lao National Assembly proceeded to elect its President and Vice President.
With a very high number of votes of confidence (141/149), the Lao National Assembly elected Mr. Bounnhang Volachith as President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic and Mr. Phankham Viphavan as Vice President.
Following the nomination by the new Chairman Bounnhang Volachith, the 8th National Assembly of Laos elected Thongloun Sisoulith as the new Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic with a very high number of votes (147/149).
Shortly thereafter, the Lao National Assembly approved the list of government members submitted by the new Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and elected the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court and the Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuracy…
It is expected that on the afternoon of April 20th, the Lao National Assembly will continue its session to discuss and approve the Vision 2030, the Strategy 2025, the 8th Five-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (2016-2020), and the Five-Year State Budget Plan (2016-2020).
