At the meeting on the afternoon of June 21, the Central Committee agreed to allow Mr. Dinh Tien Dung to resign from his positions as a member of the Politburo and a member of the Central Committee of the 13th Party Congress, in accordance with his personal wishes.

However, according to a report by the Central Inspection Committee, during his time as Secretary of the Party Committee and Minister of Finance from 2016 to 2021, Mr. Dung violated regulations on what Party members are not allowed to do, the responsibility of setting an example, and working regulations.
Mr. Dung also lacked responsibility in leadership and direction, leading to numerous violations and shortcomings within the Party Committee, the Ministry of Finance, and several organizations and individuals, causing serious consequences, negative public opinion, and diminishing the prestige of the Party organization and state management agencies. Recognizing his responsibility to the Party and the people, he has submitted a resignation letter from his assigned positions and requested to leave his job.
Two days ago, the Politburo agreed to relieve Mr. Dinh Tien Dung from his positions as Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term and Head of the Hanoi Delegation to the 15th National Assembly. The Politburo reported to the Central Committee of the Party that Mr. Dung should relinquish his positions in accordance with Party regulations and State laws; the Secretariat decided to issue a warning to the Party Committee of the Ministry of Finance for the 2016-2021 term.
The Party Committee of the Ministry of Finance was assessed as failing to perform, or performing incorrectly or inadequately, its assigned functions and tasks in advising on and issuing mechanisms and policies, and managing the State's activities regarding the issuance and trading of individual corporate bonds by enterprises, including enterprises belonging to the "ecosystem" of Van Thinh Phat Group Joint Stock Company and An Dong Group Joint Stock Company; and in managing the State budget related to AIC and the AIC ecosystem.
Regarding these violations, at its 42nd session, the Central Disciplinary Committee decided to issue a warning to a number of current and former leaders of the Ministry of Finance.
Mr. Dinh Tien Dung (63 years old), originally from Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh province, is a member of the Politburo of the 13th Party Congress; a member of the Central Committee of the 11th, 12th, and 13th Party Congresses; and a National Assembly delegate of the 14th and 15th terms. He served as Minister of Finance from June 2013 to March 2021; and from April 2021 to the present, he has held the position of Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee.
After Mr. Dung stepped down from his position, the Hanoi City Party Committee now has four Deputy Secretaries: Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyen (permanent) and Messrs. Nguyen Van Phong, Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, and Tran Sy Thanh.
At the meeting, The Central Committee of the Party has given its opinion on personnel for the Politburo to nominate to the 15th National Assembly for election to the position of Member of the Standing Committee of the 15th National Assembly, term 2021-2026.
