At noon on November 6th, Vietnam time, the results of the 2024 US presidential election were finalized, with Republican candidate Donald Trump winning convincingly.
According to the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in the US, preliminary vote counts as of 1:30 PM show that Trump has won more electoral votes than the 270 required by law, thus defeating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris to become the 47th president of the United States.
The decisive victory came in the battleground state of Pennsylvania, with 19 electoral votes.
This is also Trump's second term as the occupant of the White House, following his first term from 2016-2020.
On Election Day, November 5th, Trump delivered an outstanding performance with a series of resounding victories in all seven crucial battleground states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. He secured all 93 electoral votes in these states.
Immediately after the results were announced, Mr. Trump gave a celebratory speech to a large crowd of supporters in Palm Beach, Florida.
The Electoral College in each state is expected to convene on December 17th to cast their votes for the official election of Trump as the next president of the United States.
Mr. Trump will be sworn into office at Capitol Hill on January 20, 2025.
