Senator Vicentinho Alves handed Mr. Temer the announcement of the results of the vote in the Senate on suspending President Dilma Rousseff from office to face an impeachment trial in the legislature in the coming time for allegedly violating budget audit regulations.
Shortly thereafter, Mr. Temer announced his decision to appoint Mr. Henrique Meirelles, former President of the Central Bank from 2003-2010, as the new Minister of Economy.
According to analysts, Mr. Meirelles will face an extremely difficult task to lead the country with the number one economy in Latin America out of the recession considered the most severe since 1930.
As expected, on May 12, new President Temer will announce the composition of his new cabinet. Mr. Temer previously said he would reduce the number of cabinet members to 22 compared to the current 27 ministers./.
