The confrontation continues to be tense between US President Donald Trump and Mr. Robert Mueller, the head of the investigation into alleged Russian interference in the US election, as Mr. Mueller expands his investigation into President Trump's business activities.

Bloomberg reported on July 21 that Mr. Mueller is looking into Mr. Trump's deals to sell real estate to Russia, cooperate with Russian associates in building a hotel in downtown New York, the 2013 Miss Universe pageant in Moscow...

This is the first time that President Trump's business dealings have been the subject of an official investigation.

Previously, in an interview with the New York Times, the US president drew a “red line” with Mr. Mueller, asserting that touching his financial matters was “a violation.” Mr. Trump even left open the possibility of firing Mr. Mueller.

The special counsel is also reportedly investigating the business dealings of Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

Mr. Mueller was appointed to lead the special investigation on May 17 with extremely broad investigative powers. However, Mr. Trump's lawyers said that this time Mr. Mueller overstepped the bounds.

Previously, Mr. Trump and his team announced that they would closely monitor every action of advisor Mueller.

However, Mr. Trump is not standing idly by. The Washington Post reported that the US president's lawyers are seeking to limit Mr. Mueller's investigation, including looking for conflicts of interest by Mr. Mueller or his team, such as his relationship with former FBI Director James Comey, who was fired by Mr. Trump earlier this year.

They also looked into the possibility or whether Mr Trump could pardon himself in the investigation.

Mr. Trump has been developing a team of personal lawyers outside the White House. Meanwhile, he also appointed former federal prosecutor Ty Cobb as special counsel to the White House last weekend.
