Pompeo: US imposes new, higher sanctions on Iran
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he would impose new sanctions and isolate Iran in response to its nuclear program developments.
“The latest expansion of Iran’s nuclear program will lead to further isolation and sanctions. Nations must restore the no-enrichment standard that Iran’s nuclear program once had,” Pompeo wrote on Twitter.
"The Iranian regime, armed with nuclear weapons, would pose an even greater danger to the world," the US Secretary of State added.
On May 8, Iran announced that it had begun the first phase of terminating some of its nuclear deal commitments. Tehran explained the measures were taken because Washington violated the nuclear deal and reimposed sanctions on the country.
