Mr. Tran Luu Quang was appointed Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.
This morning (August 25), in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee held a conference to announce the Politburo's decision on personnel work. Accordingly, Mr. Tran Luu Quang was appointed to join the Executive Committee, the Standing Committee and hold the position of Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term.
On behalf of the Politburo, Deputy Head of the Central Organization Commission Nguyen Quang Duong announced the Politburo's Decision on the assignment of Politburo member Nguyen Van Nen.
Accordingly, Mr. Nguyen Van Nen - Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee ceased to participate in the Executive Committee, the Standing Committee and ceased to hold the position of Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term; participated as a Standing Member of the Subcommittee of Documents of the 14th Party Congress; at the same time, Mr. Nguyen Van Nen was assigned to monitor and direct the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee until the 14th Party Congress.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nen's new task will be assigned by the Head of the 14th Party Congress Document Subcommittee.
The Politburo also assigned Mr. Tran Luu Quang, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Commission, to cease holding the position of Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Commission and related positions to be appointed to join the Executive Committee, the Standing Committee and hold the position of Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term.
After the decisions were announced, Standing member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu and Head of the Central Organizing Committee Le Minh Hung presented the decisions and congratulatory flowers to Mr. Nguyen Van Nen and Mr. Tran Luu Quang.

Mr. Tran Luu Quang was born in 1967, from Trang Bang ward, Trang Bang town, Tay Ninh (old); professional qualifications: Master of Public Management, Mechanical Engineer.
He is a member of the Party Central Committee of the 11th (alternate), 12th, 13th terms; a National Assembly delegate of the 14th and 15th terms.
Mr. Tran Luu Quang has been attached to his hometown Tay Ninh for a long time - from a specialist of the Department of Planning and Investment and through the positions of Head of the Foreign Economic Affairs Department (Department of Planning and Investment), Deputy Head of the Moc Bai Border Gate Economic Zone Management Board, Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Investment, Chairman and then Secretary of Trang Bang District Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of Tay Ninh Provincial People's Committee.
On July 31, 2015, the Politburo assigned him to hold the position of Secretary of the Tay Ninh Provincial Party Committee for the 2010-2015 term. After that, he continued to serve as Secretary of the Tay Ninh Provincial Party Committee and concurrently served as Chairman of the Provincial People's Council for the 2015-2020 term.
On February 27, 2019, the Politburo appointed him to the position of Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.
In May 2021, he was assigned by the Politburo to hold the position of Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term and will hold this position until early 2023.
On January 5, 2023, the National Assembly approved his appointment as Deputy Prime Minister for the 2021-2026 term.
On August 16, 2024, the Politburo decided that Mr. Tran Luu Quang would cease to hold the position of member of the Government Party Committee and be transferred, assigned, and appointed to the position of Head of the Central Economic Commission.
On August 26, 2024, the National Assembly approved the Prime Minister's proposal to relieve Mr. Tran Luu Quang from the position of Deputy Prime Minister because he had been mobilized, assigned, and appointed by the Politburo to hold the position of Head of the Central Economic Commission.
On February 3, 2025, he was appointed by the Politburo to hold the position of Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Committee.
