Trump imposed a 50% tariff on Brazil for 'threatening' actions against the US.

According to RIA Novosti, the White House announced that on July 30, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing a 50% tariff on Brazil for actions that pose a "threat" to the United States.

“President Donald Trump has signed an executive order imposing an additional 40% tariff on goods from Brazil, bringing the total tariff to 50%. This move is in response to recent actions, policies, and activities of the Brazilian government that pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States,” the statement said.

Earlier, President Trump posted a letter on the social media platform Truth Social stating that the US would impose a 50% import tariff on all goods from Brazil starting August 1st.

The US leader declared that any country supporting Brazil's "anti-American" policies would face an additional 10% tariff. President Donald Trump also threatened to impose tariffs on the republic, viewing the measure as a fight for justice concerning his friend and ally.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva once stated that if the US imposed tariffs, his country would not regret what could not be changed, but instead would focus on finding other trading partners.

Lula da Silva declared he would retaliate against the tariffs and defend national interests, emphasizing that Trump "was elected President of the United States, not emperor of the world."

Not only with Brazil, but previously, President Trump had also threatened to impose an additional 10% tariff on all BRICS countries, accusing the bloc of trying to "destroy the dollar as the global standard."
