The exchange of words occurred on May 31, after former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton questioned whether President Donald Trump's campaign was involved in allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 US election, according to AFP.

Speaking at a technology conference in California, Clinton said the Russian government "cannot know the best way to weaponize information unless they are guided" by Americans with survey data. "I lean toward Trump," she said. "It's hard not to think so."

Clinton referred to the cyberattack on her campaign emails, which she believes was one of the reasons for her defeat. She also blamed fake news spread on Facebook and former FBI Director James Comey for reopening the investigation into her email scandal.

President Trump is unconcerned by Clinton's accusations. "Hillary Clinton is now blaming everyone, not admitting she was a bad candidate. Attacking Facebook and even the Democrats, the Democratic National Committee," he wrote on Twitter.

"People in 'covfefe' houses shouldn't be throwing 'covfefe'," the former US Secretary of State responded with a short message.

President Trump used "covfefe," a meaningless word, in a tweet on May 30th. The tweet, which remained online for over five hours before being deleted early on May 31st, sparked curiosity among social media users. They speculated it could be an abbreviation, a secret message, or simply a typo by President Trump.

"The president and a small group of people understand exactly what he means," White House spokesman Sean Spicer told reporters yesterday when asked about "covfefe." Spicer offered no further explanation.
