According to RIA Novosti, US President Donald Trump thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin after Putin spoke about the US leader's efforts in resolving crises and hot issues.
"Thank you President Putin!" - President Donald Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social on October 10, along with a quote and video recording the Russian leader's speech.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a press conference on October 10 that President Donald Trump is really making a lot of efforts to resolve complex and long-standing crises. Putin commented on the question of whether his American counterpart deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Russian leader also stressed that the prize is often awarded to people who have done nothing for peace. Mr. Putin believes that such decisions have seriously damaged the prestige of the prize.
President Donald Trump was one of the leading candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize and he has repeatedly insisted that he deserved the award. However, the award was awarded to Venezuelan opposition politician Maria Corine Machado.
Commenting on the decision, the White House Communications Director stated that, for the Nobel Committee, politics is more important than peace.
