Trump nominated for Nobel Peace Prize
Just hours after brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, US President Donald Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by a Republican congressman.

Congressman Buddy Carter of Georgia on June 24 officially sent a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, nominating President Donald Trump for this prestigious award.
In the letter, Mr Carter praised Mr Trump's "extraordinary and historic role" in ending "the armed conflict between Israel and Iran".
Trump declared the end of the “12-Day War” on the afternoon of June 23, with a ceasefire scheduled to take effect that night. The conflict began when Israel launched preemptive airstrikes on Iran, and escalated when the US joined in by attacking three of Tehran’s key nuclear facilities.
“President Trump’s influence was instrumental in forging a swift agreement that many believed was impossible,” Carter wrote in the letter. “His leadership exemplifies the ideals the Nobel Peace Prize seeks: pursuing peace, preventing war, and promoting international harmony.”
However, this nomination was made in the context of extremely complicated realities on the battlefield. Immediately after the ceasefire was announced by Mr. Trump, both Israel and Iran accused each other of violating it.
President Trump himself has had to speak out harshly to reprimand both sides for violating the agreement. According to sources, Israel has carried out retaliatory strikes, accusing Iran of firing missiles into its territory after the ceasefire took effect. Iran has denied this accusation.
This is not the first time Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Earlier this year, Rep. Darrell Issa nominated him, saying his 2024 election victory had “an incredible impact” on world peace. In addition, Pakistan has officially nominated Trump for the 2026 prize for his role in easing the conflict between the country and India.
According to the Nobel Prize website, there are 338 candidates nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.
The nominee himself, Rep. Buddy Carter, is a notable figure. He is running for Senate in Georgia and is known for introducing symbolic bills in support of Mr. Trump. For example, he proposed renaming Greenland “The Red, White and Blue Land” after Mr. Trump expressed interest in buying the island.
