Trump sues former lawyer for $500 million in compensation

Former US President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against his former lawyer Michael Cohen, a witness in Mr. Trump's criminal prosecution.

According to RIA Novosti, former President Trump's legal team filed a lawsuit in a Florida court on April 12, demanding that Mr. Cohen pay $500 million in compensation, alleging that he violated the attorney-client relationship and confidentiality agreement.

In the lawsuit, Mr. Trump accused Mr. Cohen of “spreading false information” about him and causing the former US President “severe damage to his reputation.”

“Mr. Cohen’s continued and escalating misconduct reached a tipping point and left the former President with no choice but to seek legal recourse,” the lawsuit said.

Meanwhile, Lanny Davis, Mr. Cohen's lawyer, said that "former President Trump continues to abuse the judicial system to harass and threaten Mr. Cohen."

Attorney Cohen is said to have directly transferred money to actress Stormy Daniels. Mr. Cohen said that he transferred the money at the behest of Mr. Trump to protect his image during the 2016 US presidential election campaign.
