US President-elect Donald Trump says he will wait to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
According to RIA Novosti, speaking at the Turning Point USA conference in Arizona on December 22 (US time), US President-elect Donald Trump said he was looking forward to meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
"President Putin said he wants to meet me as soon as possible. So we'll wait for that, we have to end this war," President-elect Trump said.
Earlier, during an online Q&A session combined with a press conference on December 19, the Russian leader stated that he was ready to talk and meet with the US President-elect. President Putin noted that if such a meeting were to take place, they would have something to discuss.
Trump called the conflict in Ukraine "horrific" and reiterated that if he had been President of the United States instead of the current leader, Joe Biden, the conflict in Ukraine would not have happened.
Meanwhile, El Pais reported that US President-elect Donald Trump told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to start thinking about peace talks.
"When you say 'restore the country'... Restore what? This is a reconstruction over 110 years," the publication quoted Trump as saying.
Last week, Mr. Trump sent a letter to the Ukrainian leader, in which he asked him to begin thinking about peace talks and concessions on territories controlled by Russia.
