According to RIA Novosti on March 22, US President Donald Trump said he did not discuss the ceasefire deadline in Ukraine with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

At the White House, reporters asked President Trump whether he tried to set a deadline in his conversation with President Putin about when to hold a ceasefire in the conflict in Ukraine.

“There is no deadline,” President Trump replied to a media question without elaborating.

Mr. Trump added that he still hopes the ceasefire will hold.

The US President also said that during the conversation, President Putin did not reject the ceasefire proposal. In addition, according to the head of the White House, on March 21 he had "some good discussions" about Russia and Ukraine.

"We are making headway in Russia and Ukraine... perhaps we can stop this death march sooner rather than later," Mr. Trump said.

At the same time, Mr. Trump said, there are more sanctions on Russia than on any other country.

President Donald Trump is weakening Kiev's position in the process of ending the conflict, Business Insider reported.

“While Ukraine is struggling with difficult problems on the battlefield, such as losses in the Kursk region and the continued offensive of Russian troops on the front line, the Trump administration is making the situation significantly worse and weakening Ukraine’s leverage in negotiations,” the article said.

Observers point out that if the US previously helped Ukraine hold out in the conflict with Russia, now they have clearly put Kiev in a difficult position.
